Axle strike may threaten Malibu
The strike at auto parts maker American Axle could threaten production of General Motors Corp.'s hot-selling Chevrolet Malibu sedan, sources familiar with the situation said Monday. The recently launched Malibu is a critical product for GM and already is in short supply. So far the only GM factories affected by the United Auto Workers union work stoppage have been ones that produce slower selling large trucks and full-size sedans. California easing zero-emissions mandate for carmakers
California may be well known for its stance against pollution when it comes to legislating on emissions rules, but environmentalists have become incensed about the state’s increasingly lax attitude towards reducing pollution through regulation of new zero-emissions vehicles. Oldsmobile owners in 1981 were so angered that their cars had been fitted with Chevrolet engines instead of Oldsmobile "Rockets," the subject of another hit song, that they successfully sued GM over the swap. The company has since eliminated brand distinctions between engines, saddling them with names unlikely to inspire songwriters, like... Full article...
