Dingell: I will hold automakers more accountable | detnews.com | The Detroit News
The American people expect a lot of this Congress, and I plan to lead a proper response. Our economy needs more than a stimulus, it needs a reboot. We must see that military and diplomatic efforts get clarity and direction. We must solve our energy problems. We need to solve our health care crisis. President-elect Barack Obama has sound ideas on all these fronts that we need to act on. Americans are angry about what has happened to our country. No one seems to be willing to take responsibility. I will... Full article...

GM won't build G8 sport truck | detnews.com | The Detroit News
General Motors Corp. told dealers today it has killed the Pontiac G8 ST sport truck, which was scheduled for production this fall. The move comes as GM plans to shrink the Pontiac portfolio as part of a broader restructuring plan that involves cutting 21,000 to 31,000 jobs, eliminating about 1,750 dealers and closing or selling Saab, Hummer and Saturn. GM is shrinking Pontiac into more of a niche brand and will save money by canceling the G8 ST and focusing the brand on "sporty, fun to drive cars,"... Full article...

General Motors Designs a New Car in Australia
General Motors still exists thanks to the help of the governments of different countries where the manufacturer does its work: the American government has just approved the multi-billion bailout, the Chinese officials helped with the financing of the building of a $390 billion assembly plant for Chevrolet Cruze and now the Australian government supports the development and production of an all-new small car. The auto is going to have Delta small-car platform, all-wheel drive and a four-cylinder engine... Full article...

GM, Chrysler suffer more ratings downgrades | detnews.com | The Detroit News
A federal bailout of $17.4 billion was not enough to keep Standard & Poor's Corp. from downgrading the credit ratings of General Motors Corp. and Chrysler LLC today on continued concerns both automakers will undertake distressed debt exchanges and fears bankruptcy will remain a risk in 2009. "We've been pretty clear all along that this government money we view as buying these companies time, but not solving their problems," said Robert Schultz, the S & P credit analyst behind both reports, in an... Auto aid troubles Wall Street | detnews.com | The Detroit News
DETROIT -- Major credit rating agencies and Wall Street analysts -- fearing shareholders and other stakeholders could be wiped out -- downgraded the outlook for Detroit's troubled automakers on Monday, after digesting the federal government's emergency loan package to rescue General Motors Corp. and Chrysler LLC. On the first Wall Street trading day since the White House said GM and Chrysler would get $17.4 billion in emergency federal loans, analysts warned a bankruptcy filing remains a risk and that... Bentley plan to cut CO2 with ethanol comes under fire | detnews.com | The Detroit News
Bentley, the British-based luxury carmaker owned by Germany's Volkswagen, reckons biofuels are the key to cutting its carbon dioxide CO2 emissions on the way to a greener future. In the short to medium term, this means embracing ethanol as the main so-called renewable fuel. But, unfortunately for Bentley and the likes of GM, the science points increasingly to this being a dead-end street. Some experts reckon this push for ethanol shows Bentley needs a quick and cheap way to at least appear to be... Full article...
