Opel Insignia to debut HCCI sparkless technology
It appears General Motors will be the first manufacturer to use HCCI technology in its vehicles, with new reports claiming the revolutionary technology will first appear in the recently revealed Opel Insignia. GM has been running tests of the efficient powertrain in a number of Opel Vectra and Saturn Aura prototypes the predecessor to the Insignia and soon the latest Insignia will become the first production car to be equipped with HCCI technology. HCCI works... Full article...

Update: new details on the Chevrolet Cruze
Updated: Chevrolet’s Cruze global small car and eventual Cobalt replacement is drawing nearer to reality. Due for unveiling at the Paris Auto Show in October, the new small car is GM’s best bet for an attractive, efficient and affordable car in the short term. Built around the Delta 2 platform - the first GM vehicle to use the new architecture - the Cruze will be the forerunner of the replacements for many of GM’s cars, including the HHR, the Cobalt and Opel’s Zafira. Spy Shots: 2010 Opel (Saturn) Astra interior revealed
A heavily camouflaged prototype of Opel’s next-generation Astra hatch, due for launch next year, was recently spotted testing in Germany and although its exterior was masked the car’s cabin was completely bare. While the dash of this test-mule is still in prototype form, we can clearly see the new layout and design for the switchgear and instrument cluster. The images of the exterior reveal a steeply curved rear-hatch, a swooping roof profile and new shape headlights with LED detailing. The new... Full article...

Road Test: Volkswagen Passat CC
The Passat CC is Volkswagen's dishy new coupé version of the dull as dishwater saloon. But not every model is a motoring coup I drove a Mercedes-Benz CLS last Monday. It always seemed a ludicrously indulgent car on which to spend a manufacturer's development and marketing budgets, as it is broadly an E-Class saloon with a side view shaped like a banana, less room inside and some more exotic mechanical parts. But buyers love it, because it looks like a concept car. They can drive a little bit of... Full article...

Hybrid sales up 38%, new record reached in U.S.
Are more consumers basing their car buying decisions on their environmental awareness? Or are they merely seeking to save their pocketbooks from the rapidly rising price of fuel? Whatever the cause, more and more motorists are opting for hybrid drivetrains in their new vehicles, with sales of the fuel-saving technology at an all-time high in the U.S. Registrations of hybrid vehicles in the U.S. rose a staggering 38% on levels just one year ago with a record 350,289 hybrids finding a home in the past 12... Chevrolet Camaro
The crowds around the stage were 20-deep in every direction. Vintage Trans Am racing was on the big screen and GM CEO Rick Wagoner was standing off to the side looking giddy to see the car's reception. And he's definitely not the giddy type. There wasn't a more anticipated press conference at the show and GM was prepared to milk it for all it was worth. From the time ESPN motorsports announcer Jack Arute kicked off the festivities to the moment Bob Lutz drove the Camaro concept onto the stage, it was a... Full article...

Saab 9-3 Review 2011
Consumer Guide's Impressions of the 2011 Saab 9-3The premium compact car from General Motors' Swedish brand is redesigned to be even more compact. It's an unexpected move, but it could mean more driving fun with higher mpg. What We Know About the 2011 Saab 9-3You've probably noticed how redesigned vehicles are most always larger, heavier, and costlier than the ones they replace, whether it's a Mini or a Mercedes. Eventually, a model literally outgrows its original market class, which often leads to a... Full article...
