R8 a reason to celebrate | detnews.com | The Detroit News
There will be nothing critical in this review. I should probably recuse myself from even writing about the 2010 Audi R8 5.2 FSI V-10 because I love this car. I will not be fair and balanced or even objective because life behind the wheel of the R8 5.2 FSI is one viewed through a rose-colored windshield. I am the Fox News of car reviews today for conservative drivers and MSNBC for those who lean so far left they're actually facing backwards. Oh, there are probably a few bad things that could be said... Full article...

GM will cut jobs in Opel strategy | detnews.com | The Detroit News
-- General Motors Co. said Wednesday some 10,000 European jobs will be sacrificed at its money-losing Adam Opel GmbH unit, which the automaker decided this week to keep, rather than sell to Canada's Magna International Inc. and its Russian partner, Sberbank. The job loss, about 20 percent of the unit's 50,000 European workers, is comparable to the number that Magna would have cut as part of a 30 percent structural cost reduction at Opel. John Smith, GM's group vice president for corporate planning and... Full article...

Launch of GM's Cruze delayed 3 months | detnews.com | The Detroit News
General Motors Co. said it has delayed the launch of its Chevrolet Cruze small car about three months until the third quarter of 2010 to ensure a flawless launch. The delay also will give GM time to produce all variations of Cruze models, the automaker said Wednesday. It was not related to any problems associated with earlier Cruze launches in Europe or China, GM spokesman Klaus-Peter Martin said. Industry analyst Erich Merkle of Autoconomy.com has not heard of any problems associated with the Cruze... Full article...

Reilly's world is growing larger | detnews.com | The Detroit News
Nick Reilly, executive vice president of General Motors Co., works out of a skyscraper in Shanghai, a Chinese port city halfway across the globe from the company's Detroit headquarters. Most of his senior-level GM colleagues are asleep when he's working, and they arrive at their offices as he's preparing to go home. Even though Reilly is far away, he is emerging as GM's second most important executive after CEO Fritz Henderson. As the new head of GM's international operations, the British executive runs... GM's directors to review Opel sales deal in November | detnews.com | The Detroit News
General Motors Co.'s board of directors will review the latest developments in the protracted talks for the sale of its Adam Opel GmbH subsidiary on Nov. 3, the company said Friday. GM also announced it had boosted its holding in GM Daewoo Automotive & Technology to 70.1 percent after being the sole subscriber to a share offer for the South Korean carmaker. Both units, GM Daewoo and Rsselsheim, Germany-based Opel, face cash shortages because of the severe industry downturn that drove GM into bankruptcy... Full article...

Senate leader urges GM, Chrysler dealership talks | detnews.com | The Detroit News
-- A key Senate leader is urging General Motors Co. and Chrysler Group LLC to negotiate a compromise with groups representing more than 2,000 dealerships that are slated to close as the automakers restructure. Sen. Richard Durbin of Illinois, the No. 2 Democrat in the Senate, on Monday sent letters to GM President and CEO Fritz Henderson and Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne urging them to reach a deal on the dealership issue "at the negotiating table." The House passed a spending bill in July that seeks... Full article...

China challenges U.S. tire tariffs | detnews.com | The Detroit News
-- President Barack Obama's decision to impose heavy tariffs on Chinese-made tires may prompt China to retaliate against U.S. auto and poultry exports. China took its case to the World Trade Organization Monday, after Obama ordered additional U.S. tariffs on Chinese tires for three years, including 35 percent in the first year. The increases come on top of the current 4 percent tariff. Besides challenging the tire tariffs before the WTO, the Chinese government said it would investigate on its own to... Full article...
