Production to resume at GM's Hamtramck factory
General Motors Corp. will resume regular production at its Hamtramck assembly plant beginning Monday, a month after the factory was idled as a result of the prolonged United Auto Workers strike at parts maker American Axle. The automaker is buying the parts from another supplier to produce Cadillac DTS and Buick Lucerne sedans at the factory, according to sources familiar with production. GM Spokesman Dan Flores wouldn't discuss where the parts are coming from. "We were able to secure enough parts to... Full article...

GM hopes to avoid strike at Malibu plant
General Motors Corp. executives said sales of the redesigned Chevy Malibu sedan continue to sizzle, but wouldn't discuss the potential impact if the United Auto Workers goes on strike at one of the Malibu assembly plants. "Certainly, we need every unit we can have," Chevrolet General Manager Ed Peper said at a product update for journalists Tuesday. The Malibu's average turn rate is about 30 days, Peper said. The cars are selling for about $4,000 more on average than the previous model and about $186... Full article...

Axle: UAW rejected proposals
American Axle & Manufacturing Holdings Inc. said the United Auto Workers has rejected several wage and benefit proposals that are more generous than what its unionized competitors pay. In a statement Tuesday, the Detroit-based supplier said tentative agreements had been reached on many issues but the UAW repeatedly rejected economic proposals that were "considerably higher than the market rate." It is the first time the company has indicated a willingness to pay more than its UAW-represented rivals... Full article...

Video: six minutes of Camaro testing spied at the ‘Ring
We’ve seen the spy photos, the official photos, the car-show concepts and even the odd spy video, but the footage available today gives us the best look yet at what GM will be offering in the form of the Camaro. Quality audio and well-framed video give us a peek into what the new car looks and sounds like under tire-squealing, throttle-mashing conditions while testing at the Nurburgring. The Camaro takes the worst the Nurburgring can throw at it with aplomb, carving the Karussel and handling the... Full article...

Chevy's Muscle car CAMARO Z28 hits the Ring, Watch out Germany
The guys over at Edmunds Inside Line got their hands on one hot spy video : the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro being tested at the Ring. They believe that this version being tested on the ring is the muscled out Camaro Z28 judging by the red Brembo brake calipers and a wheel / tire package old Camaro drivers would trade months of beer supply for. The sound of the motor featured in this Camaro prototype brings shivers down our spine. Even more bad ass will be the engine rumored to sit in the SS version of the new... Full article...

2008 Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid VS 2008 Mercedes-Benz GL320 CDI
No one's talking about it, but the 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid and 2008 Mercedes-Benz GL320 CDI are the two most fuel-efficient full-size SUVs on the market. We guess that makes Paris Hilton, proud owner of a 2008 GMC Yukon Hybrid, the hybrid Tahoe's twin, a forward-thinking early adopter at the vanguard of the green car movement.Truthfully, calling either of these SUVs "green" might border on an insult to the color, not to mention the movement. These are still large, comfortable vehicles with more... Full article...

American Axle strike idles two more General Motors factories
DETROIT -- General Motors Corp. says the eight-week strike at American Axle and Manufacturing Holdings Inc. has forced it to cut production at two more factories. GM spokesman Dan Flores says the company on Monday cut one of three shifts at an Oshawa, Ontario, factory that makes the Chevrolet Impala and Buick Lacrosse sedans. It also cut production of four-speed transmissions at a factory in Washtenaw County's Ypsilanti Township. The strike at American Axle has affected production at 30 GM factories in... Full article...

Axle strike: 8 weeks, no end in sight
Strikes continued at American Axle & Manufacturing Holdings Inc. and General Motors Corp. plants on Sunday -- and a union leader told American Axle strikers to prepare for a long haul, dampening hopes of progress in ending the nearly eight-week long walkout. Members of United Auto Workers Local 235, which represents American Axle workers in Detroit, were told in a meeting Sunday that negotiators were making progress on small issues, such as safety and skilled trades classifications. However, the company... Full article...

Hybrid owners reach record number in U.S.
DETROIT -- Kim Fenske drives a bus in Colorado by day, but when he's not working, he zooms around the mountains in a 2007 Toyota Prius. Fenske, an attorney by training who has also worked as a forest ranger, was an environmentalist long before hybrid cars like the Prius hit the market. In the early 1990s, he ran unsuccessfully for the Wisconsin state Legislature on a renewable energy platform.
