LONDON -- New car sales in Britain fell 37 percent in November compared to the same month in 2007, with total sales hovering just above 100,000, another sign the automotive sector is being hit hard by the financial crisis, an industry group said Thursday. The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders said sales to the private market were off 45 percent. For the year to date, total sales were down 10.7 percent compared to last year. F430 Replacement: lightweight with turbo V8
Ferrari has promised to make its future products lighter and more mindful of the environment, and the first example of the Italian automaker's new direction will likely be the F430 replacement. This new Ferrari, code-named F142, is rumored to arrive towards the end of 2009 or early 2010. The vehicle will start out by weighing less than the F430, even the extra lightweight Scuderia model that tips the scales at 1250 kg. The Italian exotic could share technology and styling cues with the eco-friendly... Full article...

DETROIT AUTO SHOW: Audi Flexes It's Muscle And Is Set To Debut V10 R8 Sports-Car
The Audi R8 may still be one of the hottest entries in the sports-car world, but the hype has died down a bit. With its dramatic mid-engine proportions, it is still a stunning sight on the road, but waiting lists have shrunk in many places—in its native Germany, an R8 can now be had in just two to three months' time. Three years after the coupe’s debut, Audi wants to ratchet up the hype again, and so expect the long-rumored convertible version—which may use the Spyder moniker, although... Full article...

EPA docs confirm 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer Sportback coming in GTS and Ralliart trims
Any chance we get to grill a Mitsubishi PR person about the 2009 Lancer Sportback, our questioning inevitably centers on whether the five-door will be packing the Lancer Ralliart's turbocharged, all-wheel-drivetrain. At the New York Auto Show, we were told that the Sportback would "probably" carry the Ralliart's 237-hp, turbocharged inline-four and Evo IX-derived AWD system, but nobody from Mitsubishi would confirmed it. Some snooping at the Environmental Protection Agency's EPA website reveals that... Full article...

Audi R8 V10 debuting in Detroit, cabrio coming in 2010
While other automakers are dropping out of the Detroit Auto Show left and right, Audi is heading to Motor City with guns blazing, beginning with the 2010 Audi R8 V10.Car and Driver decided to put the rumors to rest that the updated super coupe is officially coming to Detroit, packing a 5.2-liter V10 putting out 520 hp and 398 lb.-ft. of torque. Aside from the obvious aural and performance differences, the V10-powered R8 will make use of a pair of larger dual exhaust tips rather than the V8 model's quad... Full article...

New Mitsubishi Lancer EVO X FQ-400: Limited Edition with 405HP
In what promises to be the fastest and most expensive EVO yet, the Lancer EVO X FQ-400 will pack a souped-up version of the standard car's 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with a new ECU and exhaust system to produce around 405HP and 400lb-ft of torque. That should be good enough to propel the EVO from standstill to 60mph 96 km/h in around 3,5 - 3,7 sec. Comparatively, the 354HP EVO X FQ360 sprints from 0 to 60 mph in 4,1 sec.[source] Full article...

2010 Porsche Panamera auto show debut delayed
A 2009 Detroit Auto Show debut for the Porsche Panamera? Of course not - Porsche dropped out of Detroit last year before Rolls-Royce, Ferrari, Mitsubishi, Suzuki and Nissan knew what was up. Then good ol’ 2009 Geneva Motor Show would be perfect for the Panamera to show itself to the public. Wrong again; Porsche has announced that its brand new four-door will make its auto show debut at the Shanghai auto show in April instead of Geneva, as originally planned. Why the switch? Porsche feels that its... Full article...

Mitsubishi Evolution X FQ400 coming with 405 hp
Autocar snagged a handful of pics and some initial specs of the UK-only Mitsubishi Evolution X FX-400, and as suspected, the hotter Evo is a road-going version of the ADR Motorsport-prepared sedan that successfully campaigned this past September in the 24-Hour Britcar Championship. The turbocharged 2.0-liter 4B11 will put out approximately 405 hp and 400 lb.-ft. of torque thanks to a new turbo, retuned ECU and center-exit exhaust. As opposed to the outgoing FQ400, the Evo X-based model won't use a race... Full article...

Nissan back on for Chicago Auto Show, still avoiding Detroit
That was short lived. Just a few days after announcing that it would be pulling out of both the Detroit Auto Show and the Chicago Auto Show, Nissan has changed its mind. Sort of. The Japanese automaker will indeed have a presence in the Windy City thanks to the support of its local dealerships, which will be manning the show in lieu of an official factory effort. This being the case, don't expect a particularly showy display, but at least attendees will get the chance to see the new 370Z, Cube and... Full article...
