Mercedes Benz F700
After a bit of a song and dance routine, sans the song, Mercedes-Benz finally drove out its new F700 Concept at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show. Looking something like an S-Class cross-bred with a Mazda RX-8, it still managed to wow the assembled horde. The debut itself was a wild enviro-mechanical fusion of dancers emulating trees and geckos that formed a vehicle out of their prop tree branches and then fit themselves inside. It was a clever way to show green and machine can coexist beautifully. Sitting... Full article...

French Government Helps Automakers
Automakers of the whole world go through hard times and the only way of salvation is government help. While American Big Three asks for more and more from Washington DC, Swedish government has already agreed to help Volvo and Saab with their development. A few days ago French politicians approved their bailout program too. As soon as French automakers Renault and PSA Peugeot Citroën agreed to keep the factories in the country and provide jobs for French citizens, the government granted a $11.8 billion... Researchers tout traffic-sensing high beams | detnews.com | The Detroit News
TROY, N.Y. -- It's a conundrum almost as old as night driving: high-beam headlights are better for visibility, but the glare can temporarily blind oncoming drivers. After studying roadway glare for two years, researchers at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute's Lighting Research Center say they have a solution for safer driving: Create a high beam that senses traffic and dims out a measured slice of the light beam projecting into the other lane. Lighting researchers recently demonstrated a rough prototype... Full article...

Cadillac WTF: All New For the Year 8000
The appropriately titled Cadillac World Thorium Fuel or “WTF” has features you are not going to find anywhere else. It runs on clean Thorium nuclear fuel and offers maintenance-free service for 100 years or more. Not only that, each wheel is actually six individually powered wheels aligned side by side. Now that’s an absurd level of redundancy you can trust. Unfortunately, this car is only a concept by designer Loren Kulesus, but if you can hang around until the year 8000 or so, you... Phoenix concept car for American urban environment
Future transportation concepts give the world hopes to deliver eco-friendly vehicles that will be far better both in technology and looks. However, all this exists conceptually and we are still not near any such technology that could provide high-speed sporty vehicles with zero emission electric engines. Phoenix is another such conceptual design for American urban life. This machine is in itself a try to blend freedom, strength, and flexibility, with a special concern to our gradually deteriorating... Full article...

Downturn means it's back to the basics | detnews.com | The Detroit News
We were spoiled too long. Minivans that leapfrogged the competition. Outrageously powerful Cadillac concepts as lavish as a rock opera. Luxury sport sedans that came to life as living art on the walls. Most of what you see on the Cobo Center floor at the North American International Auto Show this week was designed and engineered -- "locked in," as they say -- well before the current meltdown in industry sales. Will 2010 be even thinner? But if the show seems a little thin and aired out -- no Porsche... Full article...
