Abt tunes the VW Touareg TDI
Turbodiesel motors are getting lots of press lately, and VW group vehicles are garnering much of that attention. Audi’s R8 looks to be getting a V8 TDI motor soon, and the Jetta TDI Cup in the U.S. is helping to bring diesels back into the American public’s consciousness, albeit slowly. German performance tuner Abt has already done most of VW’s lineup, but now it’s turning attention to the latest Touareg 3.0 TDI. Focusing on power upgrades and appearance modifications, the Abt... Mercedes-Benz E550: A plush highway cruiser
NEW YORK -- Poverty is greatly overrated. So is what is construed as "just-folks" normalcy. Both conditions are heralded only by people who don't have access to lots of money. In a word, Paris Hilton is right. It is better to be rich, even if you are not much of anything else. Money at least gives you the opportunity to try to become something better. The theory is crass. But it is nonetheless true, as evidenced by anyone confronted with a choice between driving an economy car or a 2008 Mercedes-Benz... Full article...

Foley is parting with beloved Corvette
Attention, political and hot rod junkies: Now's your once-in-a-lifetime chance to own a little red Corvette once driven by the speaker of the House of Representatives. That's right, former Speaker Tom Foley's 2001 shiny Corvette convertible is up for sale. Much to the Washington Democrat's chagrin. Foley, 79, now largely retired as a lobbyist with Akin Gump, is no longer driving. But it sounds as though he'll always have a soft spot for the car. "He loves that red Corvette," says Foley's wife, Heather... Full article...

B170 NTG Blue Efficiency Mercedes Benz
In Summer 2005 Mercedes-Benz started making B-class four-door crossovers. This year it is unique due to its usage of natural gas as fuel. In total the company offers 7 different engines for the B-class vehicles. There is a choice of gasoline and turbo-diesel. But the new B170 NTG Blue Efficiency model runs on both gasoline and natural gas. It has a switch that shuts down the engine when the car is going to change the fuel. This option will help the car to attract more interest from consumers. The look... Full article...

Click image for a high-res gallery of the turbocharged Mitsubishi iI'm the resident kei car obsessive here at Autoblog. That means I'm the guy who actually thinks, "That is awesome," when he reads the Google translated announcement of yet another Suzuki Wagon R variant. Hell, I did two posts on the one-off Hello Kitty Mitsubishi i. Keis are cool. So, you can imagine how happy I was to see that Mitsubishi brought along a small fleet of its i minicars to the New York Auto Show this year. Mitsubishi's... Full article...

New York 2008: NYC oddities and side splitters
We were extremely busy while trying to cover the snot out of the New York Auto Show this past week at the Jacob Javits Center. At times we caught some interesting and downright funny things that just didn't fit into any other gallery except one devote to the odd and slightly hilarious. Check them out in the gallery below, complete with captions... Full article...

Autoline on Autoblog with John McElroy
OUR SAFETY REGULATIONS ARE A CHARADEWhen I was growing up as a kid, cars didn't have a whiff of safety equipment. No seatbelts. No headrests. No collapsible steering columns. No nothing. On long trips my dad would even let me or one of my brothers lie on the package shelf behind the back seat. And we weren't the only ones. That was a pretty common practice back then.Even so, up through the 1960s, the United States had the best traffic safety record in the world. But as the population continued to grow... Infiniti announces the FX35... still not the FX37
Click above for high-res gallery of the 2009 Infiniti FXIt is official. The all-new 2009 FX50 will not share the showroom floor with a rumored "FX37." Instead, Infiniti has chosen to keep the less-powerful sibling designated as the "FX35." That means the engine is the award-winning VQ35HR right out of the Infiniti G35 sedan -- not the sweet 3.7-liter 330-hp gem from the G37 Coupe. Under the hood of the FX, the slightly smaller six-cylinder is rated at 303 hp down just a few horses from the sedan's... Full article...

Kelley Blue Book hands out 2008 Brand Image Awards
Automakers work very hard at the branding process, which takes years and years of effort to achieve. For instance, when a consumer hears Porsche, he or she likely sthink of sports cars and iconic design principles -- despite the fact that the German brand sells plenty of SUVs, too. And when a brand starts to get a negative image, it can take years to overcome that bad stigma -- just ask Ford. So, with all of this in mind, Kelley Blue Book has announced the winners of its 2008 Brand Image Awards, which... Full article...
