Update: new details on the Chevrolet Cruze
Updated: Chevrolet’s Cruze global small car and eventual Cobalt replacement is drawing nearer to reality. Due for unveiling at the Paris Auto Show in October, the new small car is GM’s best bet for an attractive, efficient and affordable car in the short term. Built around the Delta 2 platform - the first GM vehicle to use the new architecture - the Cruze will be the forerunner of the replacements for many of GM’s cars, including the HHR, the Cobalt and Opel’s Zafira. The... Full article...

2010 Mazda MAZDASPEED3
In 2007, the Mazdaspeed3 was the most powerful front-driver under $25,000. Yet, it was the deft combination of power and utility that made the hatchback irresistible. The 2010 Mazdaspeed3, fortunately, relies on much of the previous generation's hardware -- engine included -- but gains Mazda's smiley-face aesthetics, an updated suspension and driveline, and reworked electronics to improve upon an already stout platform. As with the standard Mazda3, Mazda's "Nagare" design language is apparent... 2009 Kia Cerato First Steer
Kia has a bit of a penchant for spelling words with a ‘K’ , for possibly obvious reasons, so I’m going to make a suggestion to it here, consider adding ‘Konservative’ to the lexicon – at least where it relates to the estimate that it will sell just 3000 of the all-new Cerato small sedan in Australia this year. While on the one hand the company has been talking up the new Cerato as a contender against the major players in the small car segment here, that’s Toyota... Next-gen Mazda3
The Mazda3 has been a compact darling ever since its introduction in 2004, and even though its current design is nearly five years old, it still wins many comparison tests. Since its near the end of a design cycle, a new Zoom Zoom Mazda is on its way, and some interesting renderings have been published online of what the new Mazda3 could look like. The design theme is decidedly Mazda6-based up front, with similarly angled LED headlights and the same basic shape, but this unofficial Mazda3 is far more... Full article...

Mazda U.S. sales up 24 percent in September
Mazda said today that sales in the United States were up an estimated 24 percent in September from a year ago. The sudden surge in sales was mostly due to the increased demand of the popular Mazda3 compact. Mazda’s Senior Managing Executive Officer, Daniel Morris, told reporters that U.S. sales for 2007 up until now are up 8 percent. Mazda also said that there has also been an increase in the sales of the CX-7 and CX-9 crossover models. Mazda is expected to show a redesigned RX-8 at the... Full article...

Saturn Astra: Punch the accelerator and call it Euro brash
I come from a long line of Europeans -- illiterate, mud-eating Europeans from the Outer Hebrides, to be exact, whose idea of a good time was to go down to the firth and watch the plague victims wash out to sea. Even so, I've always had an affinity for the Continent. Between New Orleans and Amsterdam, I prefer Amsterdam. I'll take Rousseau over Jefferson, Beck's over Budweiser, Formula One over NASCAR, and Heidi Klum over my knee. And, I seem to prefer European cars. I suppose that's fair. Everybody has... A new social compact: Honda Civic best all-around choice in '09 lineup | detnews.com | The Detroit News
There's no doubting the variety that comes with compact cars. Some, such as the Volvo C30 and Audi A3, are more luxurious, while others, like the Mini Cooper, have cult-like followings. All of them, however, share a few common attributes. In auto parlance, they are known as C-Segment vehicles, something that falls between the B and D segments. The EPA defines them as vehicles with interior volumes measuring between 100 and 109.9 cubic feet, but most people wouldn't know a cubic foot from a... Full article...
