Swanky Sled: Bentley S3 E design concept
Click image for a high-res galleryThere's badass, there's relentlessly badass, and then there's this. This is what happens when you dream up an idea that combines a vintage Bentley S3's coachwork and chassis with a 300-horsepower BMW 4.4L V8, a ZF 5-speed auto, a custom dual exhaust, and a deluxe interior with all the modern amenities. Tweak the look to give it the feel of a late-model Bentley, add 20-inch forged wheels, slam it to the ground and you have Arturo Alonso's Bentley S3 E design concept... Full article...

Bringing up the rear: Ford to revive rear-wheel drive in U.S.
Ford Motor Co. is bringing rear-wheel-drive development back to the United States from Australia. The automaker also has green-lighted a vehicle platform that will provide the basis for a new generation of rear-wheel-drive cars, according to sources familiar with Ford's plans. Australia, where such vehicles remain popular, had emerged as Ford's center for rear-wheel-drive development. But changing economics have convinced the company to bring the program back to Dearborn. Sources said the new... Full article...

Mileage at top of car buying list
With the price of a fill-up hovering at record highs, gas mileage has become the number one consideration for American consumers in choosing a new vehicle, even topping which automaker produces the car or truck. That finding is the result of a AAA survey, which studied consumers' attitudes toward fuel prices. The survey, released this week, also suggests that car shoppers continue to want tougher government regulations on fuel efficiency. Sixty-one percent of those interviewed said lawmakers should... Chrysler seeks your feedback
Nitpickers, armchair engineers and crabby car buyers, Chrysler LLC is looking for you. The automaker today starts recruiting members for its Customer Advisory Board, an online forum where Chrysler staffers solicit direct feedback from car buyers. The idea for such a network is taken from consumer giants such as Nike and Apple, but will be a first for the auto industry, said Debra Meyer, Chrysler's chief marketing offer. "We want to harness insights and customer dreams into things we can use concretely... Full article...

Britain's Telegraph picks their 100 most beautiful cars of all time!
The Telegraph is a major British newspaper and it's just published a list of what it deems the 100 most beautiful cars of all time. No matter what country you visit, regional automotive journalists seem to have some degree of bias toward the local brands. British publications, although they often feature outstanding writing, seem to be particularly egregious in this area. I personally have always had a soft spot in my heart for old British sports cars, particularly the Triumph TR6 and the Austin-Healy... Full article...

OUR SAFETY REGULATIONS ARE A CHARADEWhen I was growing up as a kid, cars didn't have a whiff of safety equipment. No seatbelts. No headrests. No collapsible steering columns. No nothing. On long trips my dad would even let me or one of my brothers lie on the package shelf behind the back seat. And we weren't the only ones. That was a pretty common practice back then.Even so, up through the 1960s, the United States had the best traffic safety record in the world. But as the population continued to grow... Infiniti announces the FX35... still not the FX37
Click above for high-res gallery of the 2009 Infiniti FXIt is official. The all-new 2009 FX50 will not share the showroom floor with a rumored "FX37." Instead, Infiniti has chosen to keep the less-powerful sibling designated as the "FX35." That means the engine is the award-winning VQ35HR right out of the Infiniti G35 sedan -- not the sweet 3.7-liter 330-hp gem from the G37 Coupe. Under the hood of the FX, the slightly smaller six-cylinder is rated at 303 hp down just a few horses from the sedan's... Full article...

Kelley Blue Book hands out 2008 Brand Image Awards
Automakers work very hard at the branding process, which takes years and years of effort to achieve. For instance, when a consumer hears Porsche, he or she likely sthink of sports cars and iconic design principles -- despite the fact that the German brand sells plenty of SUVs, too. And when a brand starts to get a negative image, it can take years to overcome that bad stigma -- just ask Ford. So, with all of this in mind, Kelley Blue Book has announced the winners of its 2008 Brand Image Awards, which... Full article...

Flipside: Is crash safety endangering accident victims?
Crash safety ratings are a big selling point – who's going to buy a car with just two stars? In pursuit of salable collision performance, automakers have turned to stronger metals and better construction, and consumers can reap the benefit by choosing from a panoply of highly rated vehicles. A problem arises, however, if that safety design is ever called upon to perform. Lots of vehicles now sport high strength steel in critical areas like roof pillars, and while it certainly helps protect... Full article...
