Concours d'Elegance a classic attraction | detnews.com | The Detroit News
The annual Meadow Brook Concours d'Elegance will feature more than 200 vintage vehicles. The event on Aug. 2 will include "The Best of Detroit" -- 80 cars showcasing Detroit design from the 1920s through the 1960s. This is the 30th anniversary of the car show, which costs $25 for adults and is held on the grounds of Meadow Brook Hall on the campus of Oakland University in Rochester Hills. The Concours also will feature a 1954 Fiat 8V Supersonic, a 1934 Rolls Royce Phantom II, and the North American... Full article...

Sneak peek: 2010 Nissan NV2500 | detnews.com | The Detroit News
Nissan debuted the NV2500 full-size commercial van concept in March, and it appears that work on the new vehicle is under way. The massive frame rails underpinning on this test vehicle and the heavy duty, eight-lug wheels show this is a serious commercial truck. This particular test car seems to be wearing at least some Armada sheet metal and probably does not represent the final design. The vents on the rear quarter panel also intrigue us. This probably means there is a battery pack somewhere at the... Full article...

Summer cruising toward Woodward | detnews.com | The Detroit News
Even though temperatures might have you thinking it's barely June 1, we're already halfway through our precious summer. The good news is that there are still more car-centric events to enjoy in the five weeks before kids go back to school and the lakes begin to quiet. Of course, the Woodward Dream Cruise is Aug. 15. Don't be surprised to see yellow tape and old motorhomes showing up a week earlier. Many residents who live along the Woodward corridor from Ferndale to Pontiac have already made plans to be... Ford Taurus grows up strong | detnews.com | The Detroit News
Nothing lasts forever. Whether by bad luck, bad design or the stars just stop aligning; every good and bad thing passes. But that doesn't mean it can't come back: Cinderella may have cleaned a lot of fireplaces, but even she got hitched. The Ford Taurus arrived three decades ago with a youthful vigor that would propel it to become the No. 1 sedan in America. It was a winner, a juggernaut, the San Francisco 49ers of the '80s with Joe Montana in the driver's seat. But Montana split for the Kansas City... Full article...

Outstanding new cars buck auto crisis | detnews.com | The Detroit News
Just because the auto industry is in crisis does not mean that appealing new or revised cars and trucks have disappeared. Starting at the small end of the scale but punching well above its weight is the Kia Soul. This Korean newcomer steps into a sub-compact class already populated by several strong contenders, notably the Scion xB and the Nissan Cube. But in a category where cereal box-styling seems to dominate, the Soul manages to carve its niche with a design that looks practical and sporty at the... Full article...

2010 Cadillac SRX has luxury and unexpected performance | detnews.com | The Detroit News
-- In a quick drive of the 2010 Cadillac SRX, General Motors Corp.'s luxury brand gave me a lot to think about. Cadillac provided the chance for me to drive the redesigned luxury crossover around Milford and then test a few of the vehicle's abilities on the closed course of GM's proving grounds a few weeks ago. On the road, the SRX was exceptionally well-mannered. The vehicle's performance was smooth and insanely quiet, and the cabin was full of all of the luxury features you'd expect in a... Camaro SS: Hit the throttle and hang on! | detnews.com | The Detroit News
Despite some published reports, the 2010 Camaro SS is not really what you'd call a sports car, unless you tend to shave with a chain saw or sign your name with a piece of burning timber or make scrambled eggs by dropping a piano on a chicken. The consonant quality of this car, from the moment you turn the key to the moment you gratefully leave it in the chiropractor's parking lot, is a wanton and cheerful disregard for finesse and delicacy. This is exactly right. You have to understand, after four... Full article...
