Low and slinky Volkswagen CC has much to recommend it | The Detroit News | detnews.com
When the subject is styling, Volkswagen is the alpha and the omega of vehicle manufacturers. In the early days, it offered the microbus, with all the design panache of a steamer trunk or a soldier's footlocker, though there was some hope because the original Beetle actually had some charming curvy lines. Now it presents us with the 2009 CC, which is so slick and sensuous that it eclipses anything the German company has ever offered, including the ill-fated Phaeton luxury car. The CC -- VW says the... 2009 Lincoln MKS
For the past two decades, the only thing consistent about Ford's Lincoln division has been its inconsistency. To put it lightly, the brand has struggled to find it's place in the automotive landscape. The vehicles from Ford's premium domestic division haven't had a coherent look since the early '80s. Several of its models, such as the LS and the Navigator, have sold well at times, but the absence of a Lincoln DNA hasn't helped. In 2006, North American Design chief Peter Horbury set about changing... Full article...

Auto dependability scores improve
Industrywide the long-term dependability of cars and trucks increased 5 percent, but General Motors Corp. saw many of its volume brands slip in a three-year J.D. Power and Associates quality study released this morning. Toyota Motor Corp.'s Lexus brand topped the 2008 Vehicle Dependability Study, the 14th consecutive year the brand held that position. Ford Motor Co. also faired well: All three of its brands scored marked improvements and the Ford brand's 7.7 percent decline in reported quality problems... Full article...

Ford revs in quality survey
Ford Motor Co.'s three domestic brands all received above-average marks in J.D. Power and Associates' influential annual survey of vehicle dependability, but several General Motors Corp. brands slipped in the rankings and all Chrysler LLC brands remained well below the industry average, led by a steep decline for Jeep. Toyota Motor Corp. continued to dominate the top of the chart, with its luxury Lexus brand holding on to first place with 120 problems reported per 100 vehicles. Ford's Mercury brand --... Volkswagen Tiguan is fun to drive, hard to pronounce
Millions of dollars are spent every year by auto marketing departments to determine the best name for a vehicle. Not all of this money is spent wisely. Ford Motor Co. revived its MK naming system for Lincoln. Is it "MK" or is it "Mark"? Perhaps Ford's MK Fields could clarify? Hyundai Motor Co. confirms that spaghetti Westerns dominate late night television in South Korea with its Santa Fe and Tucson. No doubt the OK Corral, Wyatt Earp edition is on its way. This brings us to the Volkswagen Tiguan... Full article...

2009 Lincoln MKS
Lincoln is up against it. The brand has languished for decades as marketing chiefs and design heads have kept a revolving door spinning at redline. The four-pointed star that once stood for one of the premium American luxury car nameplates had been denigrated to little more than the top Ford trim level. Until now, Lincoln's lineup has been defined by the Paleolithic Town Car and a trio of reworked Ford trucks.Even though Cadillac's resurgence is far from perfect or complete, that brand has received more... The doors have been unofficially thrown wide open on the Saab 9-4x BioPower concept after a Dutch media outlet spilled the beans earlier today. The 9-4x and a new Cadillac that will likely look almost exactly like the Provoq Concept and it is expected that to be founded updated version of the platform Aunt, which is also used for Saturn Vue will be based on an entirely new CUV architecture not... Ford Plans to Kill Mercury
Ford plans to stop the production of the Mercury models in 4 years. Though the officials of the company do not confirm this information, Ford does not have any plans for it after 2012. For several seasons Mercury has not been presented at any auto show which gives room to think the company wants this model to die. Actually at the last Detroit auto show Ford presented Lincoln and showed the MKT crossover concept and did not mention Mercury at all. The same happened when the pictures of the new Ford... Ford: More job cuts needed
Ford Motor Co. executives told plant managers and United Auto Workers leaders Friday that the automaker needs to act quickly and aggressively to further cut costs amid rapidly changing market conditions. The moves include offering more buyouts to factory workers and reducing overtime as Ford struggles to cope with declining vehicle sales and a dramatic shift in consumer tastes away from its bread-and-butter trucks to smaller, more fuel-efficient models. The buyouts, which will be targeted to specific... Full article...
