BMW dealer auctions new M3 for $60K on eBay, doesn't want to honor the deal
var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/autos/Dealer_auctions_new_M3_for_60K_on_eBay_doesn_t_honor_deal'; Apparently all is not kosher in corn country. BMW of Lincoln, Nebraska posted an auction on eBay for a brand new M3 Sedan for $60,000. Perhaps they were hoping for the kind of eBay madness that would push the price to six figures something other dealers are doing right on the show floor. If that's what they were after, well, they didn't get it. The car was won by a gentleman in California for the listed... Full article...

BMW 520d beats Prius in gas mileage
Readers of London's Sunday Times kept telling the auto reporters that the official mileage numbers for the Prius were overstated by about 15 imperial mpg. Intrigued, the Times decided to test things out by running a Prius against a BMW 520d with regenerative braking from London to Geneva, a 460-mile trip. Then they added 100 miles of urban running to give the Prius a chance to recover ground on its proper turf. The verdict: the conventional diesel with Efficient Dynamics beat the full hybrid by 2.2... Bringing up the rear: Ford to revive rear-wheel drive in U.S.
Ford Motor Co. is bringing rear-wheel-drive development back to the United States from Australia. The automaker also has green-lighted a vehicle platform that will provide the basis for a new generation of rear-wheel-drive cars, according to sources familiar with Ford's plans. Australia, where such vehicles remain popular, had emerged as Ford's center for rear-wheel-drive development. But changing economics have convinced the company to bring the program back to Dearborn. The automaker today starts recruiting members for its Customer Advisory Board, an online forum where Chrysler staffers solicit direct feedback from car buyers. Low dollar forces Audi to cancel U.S. Q7 hybrid plans
The low U.S. dollar has caused a number of carmakers to readjust their strategies, including canceling models and moving production. The latest vehicle to fall victim to the falling dollar is Audi’s upcoming Q7 hybrid, which will no longer be offered in the U.S. The green SUV was originally meant to reach the U.S. early next year but its launch in the world’s biggest car market has been ruled out indefinitely because there was no business case for it given the state of the dollar. The information... Full article...

OUR SAFETY REGULATIONS ARE A CHARADEWhen I was growing up as a kid, cars didn't have a whiff of safety equipment. No seatbelts. No headrests. No collapsible steering columns. No nothing. On long trips my dad would even let me or one of my brothers lie on the package shelf behind the back seat. And we weren't the only ones. That was a pretty common practice back then.Even so, up through the 1960s, the United States had the best traffic safety record in the world. But as the population continued to grow... Infiniti announces the FX35... still not the FX37
Click above for high-res gallery of the 2009 Infiniti FXIt is official. The all-new 2009 FX50 will not share the showroom floor with a rumored "FX37." Instead, Infiniti has chosen to keep the less-powerful sibling designated as the "FX35." That means the engine is the award-winning VQ35HR right out of the Infiniti G35 sedan -- not the sweet 3.7-liter 330-hp gem from the G37 Coupe. Under the hood of the FX, the slightly smaller six-cylinder is rated at 303 hp down just a few horses from the sedan's... Full article...
