For 82 year Pontiac has been an American brand that became a legend and symbol of American auto industry. About a year ago the manufacturer has announced that it would cut the number of brands in half and attempt to sell some of them. We have been tracing the sales of Saturn/Opel, Hummer and Saab, but the destiny of Pontiac was not clear. It seemed that at some points GM was eager to keep... Full article...

-- The Obama administration's top auto adviser expects General Motors Co. to make an initial public offering of its stock by the end of 2010. But Ron Bloom, who took over the top spot in July, said Chrysler Group LLC's public offering is further away. "Sometime in the back half of the year, probably more likely fourth quarter than third," GM hopefully will be able to make an initial public offering, Bloom said in an interview this week with The Detroit News. "The company has an obligation to us to make... Full article...

When the dust clears, BMW may struggle to compete | detnews.com | The Detroit News
Germany's premium car manufacturers have weathered the recession without taking on too much water, but the long-term prospects for Mercedes, Audi, Porsche, and particularly BMW are starting to sound alarm bells. European mass car manufacturers like Renault and Peugeot-Citroen of France have piled up huge losses and relied on cheap government loans and subsidized car scrapping schemes to keep their heads above water. GM Europe's Opel-Vauxhall's problems have been well aired. Ford Europe has performed... Full article...

Experts point to throttles, not floor mats, in Toyota incidents | detnews.com | The Detroit News
Eric Weiss was stopped at a busy Long Beach, Calif., intersection last month when he said his 2008 Toyota Tacoma pickup unexpectedly started accelerating, forcing him to stand on the brakes to keep the bucking truck from plowing into oncoming cars. Toyota Motor Corp. says the gas pedal design in Weiss' truck and more than 4 million other Toyota and Lexus vehicles makes them vulnerable to being trapped open by floor mats, and recently announced a costly recall to fix the problem. But Weiss is convinced... Full article...
