Click image to enlargeIf you've been looking in on the live stream of the Nürburgring 24h race, you might spot the car above crossing your video window. It's basically a production-spec Kia pro_ceed fitted with whatever safety features are required for race participation powered by the stock 138 hp/225 lb-ft 2.0L diesel. Ian Beavis makes a post-Kia landing
This past February, just when it appeared that Kia had found its advertising footing, marketing VP Ian Beavis cleaned out his desk and followed Kia Motors America CEO Len Hunt out the door. Post-exodus, Beavis has landed at Carat, an advertising concern that's part of the Aegis Group. The 54-year-old Beavis will fill the role of Executive Vice President for global client direction for Carat, and his past experience inside automakers such as Toyota, Ford, and Mitsubishi as well as time spent in... First Drive: 2009 Hyundai Sonata - Korean bred, redesigned in America
Click for a high res gallery of the new SonataIn recent months, Hyundai has made a big splash with the introductions of the Genesis sedan and coupe. While those two models will likely do wonders for Hyundai's street cred, they will definitely be niche players when it comes to volume. Among passenger cars in the US market, the midsize segment has been the highest volume category for nearly two decades. Since the mid-nineties, the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord have been the primary players with everyone... Full article...

Analysts: Mich. least likely to get VW plant
WASHINGTON -- Tennessee and Alabama should be favored over Michigan to land a new Volkswagen assembly plant, analysts said Thursday, based on the auto industry's ongoing migration into the Sun Belt and concerns about labor's heavy influence in Michigan. Volkswagen has confirmed that it is considering the three states for a plant, offering a crown jewel of economic development that could help the states expand their auto industry presence. Lured by incentive packages, an eager work force and a lack of... Full article...

Hyundai may replace Tiburon with Veloster-based coupe
This year is the last for the Tiburon two-door hatch, though Hyundai is quick to point out it’s not being replaced by the new Genesis coupe due to hit dealerships in early 2009. Its replacement - another small FWD coupe - will most likely be based on the sexy Veloster concept from the Seoul auto show. “We are seriously looking at a small front-wheel-drive coupe to replace the Tiburon, but I can’t say when that will happen,” said John Krafcik, Vice President of product development... South Korea-U.S. free trade agreement in the works?
The imminent arrival of South Korean president Lee Myung-Bak at Camp David may finally raise an issue that has been overlooked in recent times - a free trade deal between South Korea and the U.S. Myung-Bak’s two-day visit to meet with George Bush has economists speculating a free trade agreement will be at the top of the list of discussion topics. While presidential hopefuls Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama have both cited their opposition against such an agreement with South Korea presumably in... Full article...

Overheard in AIM: Neff brings the perspective
Nunez's ride this week...We Autobloggers chat on AIM all the time. Imagine a text-only version of the podcast, only 100 times more scatterbrained who knew this was even possible?, and you'll get the general idea . So anyway, here's an exchange between The Neff and myself from earlier this afternoon, in which he hits me with a solid uppercut using his Brass Knuckles of Perspective. I think they may have bits of dead Alero cast into them. Chris Grant from Joystiq got Sony to send us a review copy of GT5... Full article...

Kia Optima beats Infiniti G35 and Chevy Malibu in new IIHS test
Tests undertaken by America’s Insurance Institute for Highway Safety IIHS reveal that a number of popular 2008-model midsized sedans have shown marked improvements in their side-impact safety ratings. However, the news isn’t all good as the majority of cars tested saw only marginal improvements in their rear-crash results, a segment which costs the insurance industry around $8.5 billion every year.[source] Full article...
