Cars capable of making a political statement | detnews.com | The Detroit News
There's no doubt that a driver's personality shines through in whatever he or she drives. As proof, try this: Who do you picture climbing down from a jacked-up Dodge Ram pickup? Yep. I see the same guy in a baseball cap with an untucked shirt and about three days worth of beard. Even more than showing personality or social class, your choice of transportation can also reflect your political persuasion. Imagine the political leanings of the driver of a shiny Bentley Silver Spur or a beat-up Chevy/Geo... Full article...

Downsizing the right way: 2009 Nissan Maxima replaces size with style | detnews.com | The Detroit News
Times are tougher than boiled brisket. That's nothing new to Detroit. We've been chewing this entree for years, and we find little solace that the rest of the country finally gets a seat at our table. At least we have a country song written about us. There's always a silver lining -- even if it's a tarnished silver plated one. Optimism, you see, is free. The 2009 Nissan Maxima makes me optimistic. Finally, a big sedan undergoes a redesign and comes out smaller. Nissan chopped off nearly 4 inches in... Full article...

North Dakota's House has defeated a proposed 5 percent state tax exemption for new Ford Motor Co. , Chrysler LLC and General Motors Corp. cars and trucks. The measure got its first legislative hearing last week. It was put on the fast track for a vote because car dealers said it was delaying some customers' buying decisions. Representatives voted 64-29 on Monday to defeat the measure. It offered the 5 percent tax break for new vehicle sales and leases until June 30, 2010. Some lawmakers doubted whether... Lexus 2009 GS 450h exudes luxury and attitude | detnews.com | The Detroit News
So must be the creed of the drivers of America's No. 1 selling luxury brand. While I have no statistical data to support my theory that Lexus drivers collectively exhibit the worst roadside manners in the U.S., I have plenty of anecdotal evidence: The Lexus driver on her cell phone in California who nearly ran me off the road in Westwood. The South Florida Lexus driver on his cell phone using the emergency lane to bypass traffic. Other Lexus drivers cutting me off, tailgating me or the never even seeing... Full article...
