Calif. board expected to lower requirement for green autos
WASHINGTON -- The California Air Resources Board is expected to vote Thursday to cut the number of zero-emission vehicles the top six automakers are required to build annually, beginning in 2012, but it is not clear how big the reduction will be. CARB Chairwoman Mary Nichols told reporters in a conference call Tuesday that the board is likely to revise a proposal its staff recommended last month that called for cutting the vehicle count 90 percent, from 25,000 to 2,500. She said the final proposal... Full article...

Infiniti announces the FX35... still not the FX37
Click above for high-res gallery of the 2009 Infiniti FXIt is official. The all-new 2009 FX50 will not share the showroom floor with a rumored "FX37." Instead, Infiniti has chosen to keep the less-powerful sibling designated as the "FX35." That means the engine is the award-winning VQ35HR right out of the Infiniti G35 sedan -- not the sweet 3.7-liter 330-hp gem from the G37 Coupe. Flipside: Is crash safety endangering accident victims?
Crash safety ratings are a big selling point – who's going to buy a car with just two stars? In pursuit of salable collision performance, automakers have turned to stronger metals and better construction, and consumers can reap the benefit by choosing from a panoply of highly rated vehicles. A problem arises, however, if that safety design is ever called upon to perform. Lots of vehicles now sport high strength steel in critical areas like roof pillars, and while it certainly helps protect... Full article...

Autocar ranks 100 top F1 drivers of all time
Autocar has listed the top 100 Formula 1 drivers of all time, as declared by British motorsport journalist Alan Henry. We won't spoil the top-of-the-list surprise for you, but of course, as with all of these things, some of the placings could be a little controversial. At least until one realizes that there haven't really been that many F1 drivers in the 62-year history of the sport. Still, Mika Hakkinen at #10 in front of Michael Schumacher at #11 strikes us as somewhat odd. And Barrichello and Button... Full article...

2008 Mini John Cooper
2008 Mini John Cooper was presented on the Geneva Auto Show this year. Being a little vehicle it has 218 horsepower which is unbelievable for a tiny one like this. The 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine is turbocharged. Being designed as a racing car from the beginning Mini Cooper still has fog lights, but its bumper was remodeled and got deeper providing more aerodynamics to the car. The wheels got some tuning. You can see low-profile run flat tires on 17-inch wheels. These super light weight wheels were... Full article...

New Honda Plant in Japan
The Honda company announced they wanted to work more on mini-vehicles and decided to build a new plant in central Japan. They think the vehicles with the engine size 660 cubic centimeters are going to stay popular for the next years. For a long time little fuel-efficient cars have been popular in Japan. After the gas-prices went high, the demand on these vehicles grew worldwide. Since Honda already has a plant producing mini-vehicles, they plan to share the production with the new one. The old plant is... Full article...
