Guilt-free speedster: Tesla turns electricity into fine art | detnews.com | The Detroit News
LOS ANGELES -- When Tesla Motors offered me a chance to get behind the wheel of its roadster, I couldn't turn them down. I had heard and read about the amazing electric car from California -- zero emissions, instant torque, and blistering fast speed. It's the guilt-free green speedster. There was no way I was going to miss the chance. Walking into the Tesla showroom in L.A., I was surprised at how small the roadster looked. It's built with Lotus and while there's a Lotus look to it, only 7 percent of... Full article...

Honda using Smart ForTwo to boost its scooter sales
There has been an ad of a new Honda scooter going around these days, and it’s pretty smart, comparing the diminutive Smart ForTwo to the even smaller 50cc Metropolitan scooter. Certainly, the two-wheeler by Honda practically outdoes its much larger 4-wheeled relative, more than doubling the fortwo’s EPA mileage figures. Again, it’s always difficult to contrast the attributes of a scooter with those of a car. It takes a lot of commitment to opt for open-air riding on the back of a little scooter in... Editorial: Take bankruptcy off table for Detroit 3 | detnews.com | The Detroit News
The Bush administration is still working on aiding Detroit's automakers and that's good news, but it is still clinging to some sort of bankruptcy as one of its options. That is one of the worst scenarios confronting an already desperate industry. White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said Thursday that "there's an orderly way to do bankruptcies that provide more of a soft landing. I think that's what we would be talking about." President George W. Bush, according to an Associated Press report, mentioned... Full article...

Howes: Carmakers' woes aren't unique to Detroit | detnews.com | The Detroit News
In appearances before congressional inquisitions, General Motors Corp. Chairman Rick Wagoner got lambasted for suggesting the deepening recession was pushing the General to the existential edge. The studied lawmakers on Senate Banking and House Financial Services didn't buy it. The blogosphere hooted denunciations. Others ignored Detroit's recent record of change and recycled tired stereotypes, dutifully repeating the riff that all things green-and-hybrid paved the only way out irrespective of market...
