Consumer Reports Tells about American Automakers
Consumer Reports magazine has made it very clear that Ford has excellent reputation among customers while Chrysler needs to get back on its feet and fight for the shoppers’ trust all over. The research was done under “buy American” motto. The results have come rather positive: 81% consumers are ready to shop for a vehicle made by the native manufacturers and Ford is the leader in this group. Consumer Reports claims Ford’s success was built on the company’s aversion to accepting any federal... Full article...

Mustang Is the Best Sport Car Again
The 2010 Ford Mustang won the new test of sporty cars and coupes held by Consumer Reports. It showed to be better than Chevrolet Camaro and Dodge Challenger. The Mustang was qualified as “an even more balanced and satisfying driver's car than ever before.” The pony car was rated “very good” by scoring 78 points at the overall road test. It was praised for “strong suspension, communicative steering and the most agile handling”, according to the senior director of Consumer Reports’ Auto Test... Full article...

Peugeot, Mitsubishi joint work projects hint strongly at alliance | detnews.com | The Detroit News
Could another French-Japanese automotive alliance be in the offing? In the shadow of the successful Renault-Nissan Alliance, France's other major carmaker, PSA Peugeot Citron, and Japan's Mitsubishi Motors Corp. have become well-acquainted after working together on small ventures. Paris-based Peugeot and Mitsubishi have developed SUVs jointly for the European market, they are planning to build vehicles together in Russia, and they are teaming up on electric cars. On Friday, the chief executives of the... Full article...

Missouri Hummer dealer freshens product line with guns | detnews.com | The Detroit News
Jim Lynch owns $7.5 million worth of car dealership devoted to a brand that's no longer in production and might or might not continue to exist, depending on the whim of the Chinese government. This is not a good business model. For seven years, back when the Hummer H1 roamed the Earth, Lynch Hummer of Chesterfield, Mo., was the leading Hummer dealer in America. It could barely see the second-place dealer in its enormous side-view mirrors. That ended in 2003, when the pencil-necked sissies at GM... Full article...

Building a classic cruiser from the frame up | detnews.com | The Detroit News
So you want to drive your own classic car in next year's Woodward Dream Cruise, but you can't find a mid-'50s Chevy or early-'30s hot-rod ready to be restored. Don't worry, you can buy all of the components and build your own brand-new classic. Since the late 1950s, Experi-Metal Inc. of Sterling Heights has been supplying automakers with stamped metal components -- body panels and trim -- used in the construction of prototype vehicles. Because automakers have yet to produce the tools needed to stamp out... Full article...

Keeping up sales after 'clunkers' | detnews.com | The Detroit News
Now that the "cash for clunkers" program is over, the big question is whether American consumers will slump back into unconsciousness as the adrenaline jolt of the government incentive wears off. Last month the annualized U.S. sales rate topped 13 million units, as buyers flocked to showrooms to take advantage of up to $4,500 in discounts under the program. That sales rate looks pretty impressive considering it had dipped to below 10 million earlier this year. The problem is that the auto industry had... Full article...

Mini turns on German charm | detnews.com | The Detroit News
The original British Mini might not have become the second most influential car of the 20th Century if not for an energy crisis. Facing a fuel shortage brought on by the Suez Crisis of 1956, British Motor Corporation designed the minuscule motorcar to compete with an adorable array of wheels from Germany known as "bubble cars." It's not hard to figure out how they got their nicknames. The bubble cars, particularly the Peel Trident, generally resembled soap bubbles affixed to go-kart chassis. According... Full article...

Ford's 2010 Transit Connect means business | detnews.com | The Detroit News
The recession is over, and I've got proof. While many "experts" will point to the GDP, unemployment figures and the trade deficit, I'm more of a believer of those tangible products that predict our nation's financial plight. Sales of cardboard boxes, diamonds and lipstick have been monitored in the past and could work today. Future economic soothsayers will gaze into their Magic 8 Balls and use the Ford Transit Connect sales numbers as a barometer of the nation's small business health. To paraphrase a... Full article...

Ford Increases Truck Production
It seems that Cash for Clunkers really pulled automakers out of economic troubles and low sales. The manufacturers do not worry any more about sales and are counting the great profits after the program. Ford is so excited about big auto sales that it decided to increase the production by adding shifts to the truck plants in Missouri and Michigan. The changes will start this fall. At first the company plans to restore the three-shift operation at the truck plant in Dearborn, Michigan to increase the... Full article...
