Automatic Data Processing Inc ., the world's biggest payroll manager, cut its forecast for sales to automobile dealers after new car purchases slowed. Dealer sales will climb 9 percent in the year ending June 30, down from a February forecast of 10 percent growth, Chief Executive Officer Gary Butler said today at a meeting in New York with analysts. Dispute cited in top Chrysler engineer's departure
DETROIT -- One of Chrysler LLC's top engineers left the company Tuesday because of a dispute with senior managers, a person with knowledge of the situation said Tuesday. Mike Donoughe was leading the company's effort to develop a new generation of global midsize cars. The person said Donoughe clashed with Peter Arnell, a marketing consultant hired by Chrysler Chairman and Chief Executive Bob Nardelli. The person asked not to be named because Chrysler wasn't publicizing the reason for Donoughe's... Full article...

Calif. board expected to lower requirement for green autos
WASHINGTON -- The California Air Resources Board is expected to vote Thursday to cut the number of zero-emission vehicles the top six automakers are required to build annually, beginning in 2012, but it is not clear how big the reduction will be. CARB Chairwoman Mary Nichols told reporters in a conference call Tuesday that the board is likely to revise a proposal its staff recommended last month that called for cutting the vehicle count 90 percent, from 25,000 to 2,500. She said the final proposal... Full article...

Spy Shots: High-res Chevrolet Camaro images
Despite the sheer number of near-production Camaro test-mules cropping up in both the U.S. and Australia and the recent release of its Dodge Challenger rival, GM’s new muscle car won’t be arriving in showrooms for more than a year. A lot of things could happen in the next 12 months and the Camaro we get in 2009 may not share much with the concept version first revealed in 2006. Fortunately, these new spy shots show that designers have kept most of the lines of the original concept but what’s... Full article...

Irrational greenies, hands off my V-8
If I happen to hold an opinion that is politically correct, it's coincidence. For instance, I believe in personal responsibility, hate socialism, love God and recognize the general goodness of our country. My reluctance to embrace another PC view surfaced as I reviewed a new best/worst list of vehicles by the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy ACEEE. The selection criteria of this Washington, D.C., advisory group focuses on vehicular environmental impact as seen through the lens of global... Full article...

Porsche may use VW stake to avoid emissions rules
Porsche has a major challenge on its hands in the form of strict new fuel-economy and emissions regulations set to roll in across the U.S. and Europe in coming years. Carmakers are being forced to improve their average fleet-wide mileage and carbon emissions levels and for a niche brand like Porsche, which sells a limited range of high-performance models, meeting these new standards will be near impossible given the current deadlines. To get around the new regulations, Porsche may be able to merge its... Full article...

Nearly half of all Challengers sold will be V6s
Just a few days after Bob Lutz told the press in New York that the Camaro could be getting a turbocharged four-cylinder powerplant, Chrysler has announced that it estimates 40% of Challenger sales will be V6-powered base models, like its competitor, the Ford Mustang. Although the company has been pushing the new Challenger as a muscle car with the images and video of its range-topping SRT8 model, which generates 425hp and 420lb-ft of torque from its 6.1L Hemi V8, it turns out the Challenger will be... Chrysler tapping consumers to design future products
Chrysler's "It's a new day" ad campaign has been in full swing for about a month, but very little substance has backed up the slogan. Now, Chrysler has extended a somewhat open arm to consumers and asked what they're looking for in a new vehicle. ChryslerListens.com is designed to fill that communications gap, asking customers in 1,000 words or less to tell the automaker's PR department what products they want to see coming from Chrysler.Beyond a basic form on the home page that allows you to speak your... 2008 Belgrade Auto Show: Zastava Skala 55 (a.k.a. the Yugo)
Click above for more pics of the Zastava Skala 55The Easter holiday is a time of rebirth, and we can't think of a better automotive resurrection to celebrate than the Zastava Skala 55. Haven't heard of the Skala 55? Sure you have! It was sold here in the United States as the Yugo GV, and summarily tarred and feathered for being a $3,900 brand new car. Let's avoid an epic fight about the past and focus on why we're so jazzed that the rebuilt Zastava factory is still turning out these crisply styled... Full article...
