Management shakeup at GM continues | detnews.com | The Detroit News
-- General Motors Co. announced a management shakeup Thursday with the retirement of four senior executives, while the U.S. Treasury Department and Canadian government named the five final members of GM's new board of directors. GM said today that Gary Cowger, group vice president, global manufacturing and labor relations, will retire at the end of the year. Until Dec. 31, Cowger will assume responsibility for the integration of Delphi Corp.'s four factories and global steering business being acquired... Full article...

Outstanding new cars buck auto crisis | detnews.com | The Detroit News
Just because the auto industry is in crisis does not mean that appealing new or revised cars and trucks have disappeared. Starting at the small end of the scale but punching well above its weight is the Kia Soul. This Korean newcomer steps into a sub-compact class already populated by several strong contenders, notably the Scion xB and the Nissan Cube. But in a category where cereal box-styling seems to dominate, the Soul manages to carve its niche with a design that looks practical and sporty at the... Full article...

Camaro SS: Hit the throttle and hang on! | detnews.com | The Detroit News
Despite some published reports, the 2010 Camaro SS is not really what you'd call a sports car, unless you tend to shave with a chain saw or sign your name with a piece of burning timber or make scrambled eggs by dropping a piano on a chicken. The consonant quality of this car, from the moment you turn the key to the moment you gratefully leave it in the chiropractor's parking lot, is a wanton and cheerful disregard for finesse and delicacy. This is exactly right. You have to understand, after four... Full article...

Sneak peek: Buick Excelle | detnews.com | The Detroit News
Little is known about the all-new version of the Buick Excelle. It will ride on GM's new Delta II platform that underpins the highly anticipated Chevrolet Cruze. Under the hood, powertrain options are expected to mirror that of the Chevy Cruze. In a nod to the green movement, GM could also slot a version of the Chevy Volt's powertrain into the baby Buick. The model could be sold in Europe. Should the new entry-level Buick go into production in Europe, we can expect the Cruze's 2.0-litre diesel engines... Full article...

Detroit cars still in teens' daydreams | detnews.com | The Detroit News
"Dad, would you buy me a Camaro?" Before I could muster an answer to my 17-year-old daughter's question, she spotted a new Ford Mustang. "That's a cool car, too," she said, as I drove her to school one morning. There followed a brief and poorly received lecture from me on why a powerful rear-wheel-drive sports model is probably not the best choice for a teenager's first car. Further efforts to ascertain what makes the Mustang and Camaro "cool" in a 17-year-old's opinion did not reveal much. But the... Full article...

2010 Camaro gets more power | detnews.com | The Detroit News
With a V-6 as powerful as some competitors' V-8s, and with a V-8 developed for the Corvette, the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro is not short on performance. Still, some people want even more, and John Hennessey hopes to provide it. Hennessey built his reputation as a high-performance car tuner with his version of the Dodge Viper. He's branched out into other makes and models and recently launched his spin on the new Camaro. Tuning cars, said Hennessey, was "a hobby that got out of control" for 15 years. But five... Deronda G400
Close your eyes and build the ultimate two-seat sports car. Start with a lightweight, tube-frame chassis and then add race-bred suspension and oversized brakes. Wrap the vehicle in an aero-inspired carbon fiber body shell, but keep the generous cockpit open for wind-in-your-hair enjoyment. Lastly, wedge a huge, torque-laden, tire-shredding engine into the middle of the chassis, and tune the exhaust note so it scares the gophers out of your neighbor's front lawn. Now, open your eyes and take a look... Full article...

Volkswagen CC premium midsize car class
Premium midsize cars may be upscale luxury machines, but they are also among the leaders in all-around performance, reliability, and value for the money.Stepping up to a premium midsize car often means more standard features, such as leather upholstery, heated seats, uplevel audio, and techno-gadgets galore. Most of these cars provide plenty of power to go along with a supple ride, and in many cases, superb handling. Most cars in this class are 4-door sedans, but there are wagons available, as well as a... Volkswagen Routan minivan
After years of popularity among families as the quintessential people and stuff hauler, the minivan class is in a definite decline. The minivan first became a significant part of the American automotive marketplace in the mid-1980s with the introduction of the Dodge Caravan. For years it reigned as the king of family movers, and for good reason. Most minivans can carry at least seven passengers, and if space for stuff is needed, seats can be folded flat, folded into the floor, or even removed all... Full article...
