-- General Motors Co. announced a management shakeup Thursday with the retirement of four senior executives, while the U.S. Treasury Department and Canadian government named the five final members of GM's new board of directors. GM said today that Gary Cowger, group vice president, global manufacturing and labor relations, will retire at the end of the year. Peel out with a set of orange-oil tires | detnews.com | The Detroit News
Automakers and their suppliers love to talk about technology transfers, especially those that move from the highly competitive and exciting environment of racetracks to the mundane but much more important public roadways. The Yokohama Tire Corp. has a new tech transfer ready to roll -- tires made by using the oil from orange peels to replace much of the petroleum-based oil that goes into tire production. Officially, Yokohama's new tire is the dB Super E-spec, which the Japanese rubber company calls "the... Full article...

Mercedes system helps keep drowsy drivers awake | detnews.com | The Detroit News
Mercedes-Benz has become the latest automaker to offer high-tech help to fight drowsiness while driving. Standard on the redesigned 2010 E-class models will be Mercedes' new Attention Assist system, designed to detect drowsiness on the part of the driver in the early stages, before it becomes a real danger, the German automaker said. It uses various sensors to monitor the driver's behavior, including slight weaving of the vehicle that results in "patterns of minor steering corrections," Mercedes said... Full article...

Sneak Peek: 2011 Cadillac CTS-V Coupe | detnews.com | The Detroit News
Newly un-retired GM Vice Chairman Bob Lutz confirmed this month that the 2011 Cadillac CTS-V Coupe was still a go. Compared to the prototypes we saw last year, these new prototypes look almost production-ready down to the two massive, center-mounted exhaust outlets; larger, sportier wheels; and V-series badging. We can also see that this new prototype is NOT sporting cross-drilled rotors as the first prototypes were. Additionally, pieces of black tape cover the V-series badges just behind the front... Volvo Car UK challenges the Mayor of London to Emissions Equality
Volvo Car UK has today challenged the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, to review the basis of charging for the London Congestion Charging zone. Volvo Car UK believes that the principle of hybrid cars being exempt from the Congestion Charge is now outdated and unfair.  Drivers of hybrid cars enter the zone free of charge on a daily basis while drivers of low emission cars powered by conventional internal combustion engines with the same, or even lower, levels of emissions are charged £8.00... 2010 Lincoln MKT has luxury, power to spare | detnews.com | The Detroit News
At 115 mph, the Michigan countryside blurs into horizontal lines of greens and browns; that is, if you look directly out the driver's window. My advice: Look straight ahead. Going that fast means you can see the forest, but not any of the trees, as they past in a flurry of sound and color. Now, I wasn't driving on just any Michigan road. I was testing the 2010 Lincoln MKT's new powertrain at Ford's Michigan Proving Grounds in Romeo. Part of the facility includes a super smooth, 5-mile oval track with... Full article...

2010 Cadillac SRX has luxury and unexpected performance | detnews.com | The Detroit News
-- In a quick drive of the 2010 Cadillac SRX, General Motors Corp.'s luxury brand gave me a lot to think about. Cadillac provided the chance for me to drive the redesigned luxury crossover around Milford and then test a few of the vehicle's abilities on the closed course of GM's proving grounds a few weeks ago. On the road, the SRX was exceptionally well-mannered. The vehicle's performance was smooth and insanely quiet, and the cabin was full of all of the luxury features you'd expect in a...
