Aston Martin DBS crashed for new James Bond movie
One Aston Martin DBS used for filming in the latest James Bond flick, Quantum of Solace, has already ended up at the bottom of an Italian lake, and now a second car has been crashed into a quarry. Unlike the first incident, which was actually an accident caused by poor weather conditions, the latest crash was scripted as the final climax of the new movie’s car chase. The simulated crash took place in the mountains of Carrara in Italy and required that the car fly into a marble quarry after being... Full article...

Aston Martin not for sale, new engine deal in negotiation
Dave Richards, the boss of one of Aston Martin’s biggest investors, Prodrive, has quelled speculation that the British carmaker could be up for sale once again following reports earlier this month claiming Kuwaiti-based investment firm Investment Dar would sell its 50% stake in the company. Speaking at the Nürburgring 24-hour race last weekend, Richards said the speculation arose from previous rumors that suggested Aston Martin was in talks with Mercedes-Benz over an engine-sharing deal. Richards has... Full article...

Aston Martin Vantage V8 GT design study
Before you get all excited and think Aston Martin is developing a new version of its entry-level GT, note that these new sketches were purely a design exercise by Austrian designer and former MG Rover employee Adam Gompertz. The concept behind the design was for a lightweight, race-inspired version of the Vantage V8 along the lines of the production N400 model. Gompertz acquired much of his talent during his tenure at the Coventry School of Art and Design in the UK, where one of his creations, a... Full article...

Carrozzeria Touring returning with new Superleggera
One of Italy’s oldest coachbuilders is set to revive its car making business after several decades in hibernation despite the troubled times of many of its closest rivals. The company is Carrozzeria Touring, a coachbuilder first established in 1926 and responisble for a number of cars from the likes of Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, Maserati and Aston Martin to name a few. During the 1960s, many carmakers sourced most of their coachbuilding operations in-house and many of Carrozzeria Touring’s remaining... Full article...

Dual win for KTM X-Bow on race debut
The latest leg of the GT4 European Cup in Silverstone over the weekend not only saw the race debut of two new KTM X-Bows, but it also saw the pair of the pint-sized roadsters take top honors in their class. Both cars, which were run by German team Reiter Engineering, completed the practice and qualifying rounds unscathed and went on to race in two separate events in the new ‘Sports Light’ category of GT4. Up against the regular GT4 class, which includes 400hp-plus Aston Martins and Corvettes, the... Full article...

Ferrari 599 GTB goes up in flames on delivery drive
It was just another day in Martin Bullen’s rather fortunate work life - driving a Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano, and getting paid to do it. Of course, he was driving it to the repair shop, but still, there are worse ways to make a living. And then, while stopped at a traffic light the car made a noise, then burst into flames, destroying the Italian supercar right before his eyes. Bullen was then faced with the difficult call to his boss, made just minutes after firefighters arrived on the scene, too... Full article...

Geely GT Concept leaks ahead of Beijing show
It’s easy to compare cars, finding a curve here or a swell there that resembles the design of another. Many have said the Ferrari 599GTB and Corvette C6 Z06 share a lot in common, for example, although it’s certain that neither copied the other - it’s just an example of how common design goals can lead to common design products. Perhaps that’s why Geely’s new GT concept seems to have the feel of several cars - Maserati’s Gran Turismo, Alfa Romeo’s 8C... Full article...

Mercedes AMG partners with Bang & Olufsen for car audio & video
Danish audio-video masters Bang & Olufsen have announced today their partnership with Mercedes’ AMG performance division. They join Audi and Aston Martin as the company’s primary automotive partners. The primary focus of the agreement will be for in-car entertainment systems, both audio and video-based. Next-gen Ford Ka stars in new Bond film
While most Bond fans will be salivating over the Aston Martin DBS in the new Bond film, the oddly named Quantum of Solace, fans of the Blue Oval can look out for the appearance of the next-generation Ka subcompact. We suspect the diminutive hatch won’t be 007’s primary mode of transport. Instead we envisage it being used in a similar fashion to the Ford Mondeo’s appearance in Casino Royale, a hire car Bond used to travel from an airport. You can catch a glimpse of the 2009 Ka right now in... Full article...
