Update: 7.0L V12 Aston Martin One-77 official details
The era of epic supercars is certainly not over at Aston Martin, with the release today of an official teaser for a new flagship model that’s set to enter production in an extremely exclusive run of just 77 cars. The only details released thus far are that it will feature a sophisticated carbon-fiber chassis with a handcrafted aluminum body and a 7.0L V12 powerplant. The new teaser shows a distinctly Aston Martin design, but with an added aggressiveness that even the company’s racing models... Full article...

Danish audio-video masters Bang & Olufsen have announced today their partnership with Mercedes’ AMG performance division. They join Audi and Aston Martin as the company’s primary automotive partners. The primary focus of the agreement will be for in-car entertainment systems, both audio and video-based. Comparison - 2008 Ferrari 599GTB Fiorano and 2008 Aston Martin DBS
In your dreams, you celebrate Spring Break in Maranello, Italy. You check out two of the finest stallions from Ferrari's stable, race an Aston Martin DBS similar to the one James Bond rolled seven times in Casino Royale, dine at glam restaurants, relax at a palace adjoining Ferrari's backyard. Then a dramatic miscue jolts you from your reverie and dots your forehead with icy bullets of sweat. The dream turns into a nightmare as the day's drive ends with two hot, tired V-12-powered GTs ready for a rubdown... Mercedes wants a Grand Prix team of its own
As the 10 Formula One teams prepare for the German Grand Prix at Hockenheim on Sunday, none of the five major car manufacturers in the sport can celebrate like Mercedes can: In terms of achievement, triumph, control over its destiny and cost/victory efficiency ratio, Mercedes, with its 40 percent stake in the McLaren Mercedes team, is the most consistent winner among them. But while Mercedes has led the charge of the world's major car manufacturers into Formula One over the past decade and created the... VW could build diesels and hybrids in the U.S.
In the rest of the world, Volkswagen has one of the widest and most interesting arrays of engines in the automotive industry. Ranging petrol to diesel, from sub-1L three cylinders to monstrous V10s, V12s and W16s, in Europe and elsewhere, the company’s paltry line of four and five and six-cylinder engines in the U.S. seems rather meager in comparison. But that’s about to change with the construction of the new plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee, especially on the diesel and hybrid front. The... Full article...

Report: Mercedes-Benz wants to buy McLaren
Mercedes-Benz is interested in buying the remainder of McLaren, team chief executive Martin Whitmarsh has admitted at Hockenheim. On the verge of the German manufacturer’s home race, Whitmarsh confirmed the constant speculation about McLaren’s long-time partner wanting to up its share from the current 40%. McLaren teamed up with the Stuttgart manufacturer in 1995, and Mercedes-Benz is now the only carmaker on the grid that does not own its team outright. “It’s an interesting... Full article...

Grid set for 24 Hours of Le Mans, Peugeot starting 1-2-3
As we reported yesterday, Peugeot was clearly the fastest in qualifying for this weekend's running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The record-setting runs of all three 908 HDi diesel-powered LMP1 cars places Peugeot's entire field of entries 1-2-3 on the starting grid. That's impressive considering two of Peugeot's car crashed during the past two weeks of practice. Audi is hoping that its team's experience, quicker pit stops and more fuel efficient R10 LMP1 cars will eventually carry it past the Peugeots... Full article...

Is this the iCar? Nah, couldn't be
Last August speculation begin to swirl about a joint collaboration between Apple and Volkswagen to produce the unofficially named iCar. All the rumors were based on a report by a German publication that claimed Apple CEO Steve Jobs had met with Volkswagen chief Martin Winterkorn. Volkwagen confirmed the meeting, but provided no specific details about what was discussed. Topics could have ranged from Apple assisting the German automaker with the user interface of its new touchscreens, as Engadget had... Full article...
