Autocar ranks 100 top F1 drivers of all time
Autocar has listed the top 100 Formula 1 drivers of all time, as declared by British motorsport journalist Alan Henry. We won't spoil the top-of-the-list surprise for you, but of course, as with all of these things, some of the placings could be a little controversial. At least until one realizes that there haven't really been that many F1 drivers in the 62-year history of the sport. Still, Mika Hakkinen at #10 in front of Michael Schumacher at #11 strikes us as somewhat odd. And Barrichello and Button... Full article...

"Twist the Throttle" motorcycle documentary series launches online
Over the weekend, Dylan Weiss from Cry Havoc Productions, Inc. let us know that his latest motorcycle-specific documentary went live at Discovery's Turbo online site. We've spent some time watching the footage, and we think it's awesome. Focusing in on Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki, BMW, Ducati, MV Agusta and Bimota, the crew took plenty of footage home with them and managed to ride some of the greatest modern sportbikes ever created along the way. Best of all, over four hours of video is available... Full article...

New York 2008: The Mitsubishi i is A-OKei
Click image for a high-res gallery of the turbocharged Mitsubishi iI'm the resident kei car obsessive here at Autoblog. That means I'm the guy who actually thinks, "That is awesome," when he reads the Google translated announcement of yet another Suzuki Wagon R variant. Hell, I did two posts on the one-off Hello Kitty Mitsubishi i. Keis are cool. So, you can imagine how happy I was to see that Mitsubishi brought along a small fleet of its i minicars to the New York Auto Show this year. Mitsubishi's... Full article...

2008 Mini John Cooper
2008 Mini John Cooper was presented on the Geneva Auto Show this year. Being a little vehicle it has 218 horsepower which is unbelievable for a tiny one like this. The 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine is turbocharged. Being designed as a racing car from the beginning Mini Cooper still has fog lights, but its bumper was remodeled and got deeper providing more aerodynamics to the car. The wheels got some tuning. You can see low-profile run flat tires on 17-inch wheels. These super light weight wheels were... Full article...

Auto briefs
NEW YORK -- Toyota Motor Corp. has cut its forecast for the U.S. auto market this year and now expects overall industry sales of around 15.5 million cars and trucks, according to Toyota executives at the New York car show. That range "is looking to be a more reasonable and realistic view," Randy Pflughaupt, vice president for marketing at Toyota Motor Sales USA, said at the auto show. At the start of the year, the Japanese automaker had predicted the market would be flat in 2008, with sales totaling... Full article...

Workers at Axle in crossfire as era ends
You may not want to listen to Dakar McDonald. You may not be sympathetic to his predicament. But the guy tells a story that's worth hearing because of what it says about Detroit's reckoning. And an era's final gasps. He's 36. He's a husband, the father of an 8-year-old and a Southfield homeowner. He earns $28.75 an hour at American Axle & Manufacturing Holdings Inc.'s Plant 2, which he says works out to an annual salary of roughly $57,000. He's also on strike -- going on one month. McDonald, like the... Full article...

Mercedes-Benz E550: A plush highway cruiser
NEW YORK -- Poverty is greatly overrated. So is what is construed as "just-folks" normalcy. Both conditions are heralded only by people who don't have access to lots of money. In a word, Paris Hilton is right. It is better to be rich, even if you are not much of anything else. Money at least gives you the opportunity to try to become something better. The theory is crass. But it is nonetheless true, as evidenced by anyone confronted with a choice between driving an economy car or a 2008 Mercedes-Benz... Full article...

Mitsubishi crossover delivers surprising luxury
The Mitsubishi Outlander is one smooth ride, which is a little surprising for a vehicle bearing a name like that. Outlander sounds akin to "Rough Rider," or maybe something closer to Dodge's rugged Durango or Jeep's Wrangler. However, there's nothing rough about the Outlander. The engine is so quiet that I didn't know it was running when I first got behind the wheel. The 2008 model has one of those electronic keys that you don't have to insert in the ignition. Just have it on you or in the car, then... Full article...
