Chrysler Group LLC has launched a new national advertising campaign for Jeep, its most recognizable nameplate. It is one of the first actions by the company that on Wednesday broke a five-month silence to outline its five-year business plan and says it will be much more vocal about its initiatives and products. There are ambitious plans to increase Jeep brand sales to 800,000 globally by 2014 from less than 500,000 in 2008. The first of three phases of a U.S. Jeep campaign, created by GlobalHue of... Chrysler eyes 2011 for profit | detnews.com | The Detroit News
Fiat's retooling of Chrysler foresees the littlest of Detroit's Big Three making profits by 2011 and paying off its bailout loans by 2014, officials said during Wednesday's daylong debut of what a post-bankruptcy Chrysler will look like. The profit forecasts are based on big cuts in expenses that already are under way; economies of scale from sharing parts and vehicle platforms; and a volume increase that calls for doubling U.S. and worldwide sales in five years. It will be a big gain from the... Full article...

Nissan Recalls 2008-09 Rogue
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration requested a recall on 2008-09 Nissan Rogue because of the possible loss of steering control. During tests it has been discovered that "a screw in the steering gear housing cover may loosen over time and could fall out." If the screw comes out, the steering system will be out of control in case of large input on the steering which would lead to an accident. Nissan says that there have not been any problems reported on this matter. However, the... Full article...

Launch of GM's Cruze delayed 3 months | detnews.com | The Detroit News
General Motors Co. said it has delayed the launch of its Chevrolet Cruze small car about three months until the third quarter of 2010 to ensure a flawless launch. The delay also will give GM time to produce all variations of Cruze models, the automaker said Wednesday. It was not related to any problems associated with earlier Cruze launches in Europe or China, GM spokesman Klaus-Peter Martin said. Industry analyst Erich Merkle of Autoconomy.com has not heard of any problems associated with the Cruze... Full article...

Senate committee calls Delphi's salaried pensions 'devastating' | detnews.com | The Detroit News
-- A Senate committee criticized the disparate treatment of the pensions of Delphi Automotive LLP's hourly and salaried retirees and demanded more information on how the decisions were made by the Obama administration. Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, noted at a hearing Thursday that the Troy-based auto supplier had terminated its pension plans covering 70,000 workers -- the fourth-largest ever takeover in terms of people covered. In July... Full article...

The Infiniti G: Brains and beauty | detnews.com | The Detroit News
The addition of the hardtop has transformed convertibles from Sunday summer strollers to everyday drivers. For the most part, they look like regular cars, drive like regular cars and generally feel like them. But then touch a single button and the three-piece roof folds up smartly into the trunk, and all of sudden everything ordinary becomes better. For those who want it all, hardtop convertibles make it possible. Earlier this year, Infiniti introduced the 2009 G convertible. The word "ordinary" and... Full article...

Old Carco LLC, the estate of bankrupt Chrysler, is seeking court approval to sell the automaker's mothballed Newark, Del., SUV factory to the University of Delaware for $24.3 million. The request, filed in bankruptcy court Friday, follows 18 months of trying to sell the property, which covers 271 acres and includes a parts depot plus the plant that churned out Dodge Durango and Chrysler Aspen SUVs until it closed in December. Automakers are using more recycled materials | detnews.com | The Detroit News
Detroit's automakers are finding new uses for worn-out jeans, discarded plastic bottles and manufacturing rubbish -- they're recycling them for use in new vehicle parts. Mayor Bing's SUV lease criticized | detnews.com | The Detroit News
-- Mayor Dave Bing is now being chauffeured in a $59,205 Yukon XL Denali delivered to the city on Wednesday, a move that is drawing criticism from unions and his rival in the Nov. 3 election. The mayor's staffers say the decision to lease the SUV with heated-leather seats, a Bose stereo system and satellite radio is out of his hands because Police Department officials say they need it to do their job. "It is the Police Department's decision. This is their requirement," said Karen Dumas, the mayor's... Full article...
