These are the last weeks when Saab functions as a GM branch: the Swedish company is going to belong to Koenigsegg Group pretty soon. However, a few recent projects which have been developed together with GM designers will be produced by Saab as part of American auto company. One of them is the renewed 2010 Saab 9-5. The car goes to the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show for the official debut. The first pictures of Saab 9-5 were printed at the Swedish edition of the German magazine Auto Motor und Sport. At the...

Saab's Hot Flex-Fuel BioHybrids
Saab recently unveiled a stunning pair of concept cars that redefine conventional compact car design. The Saab 9-X BioHybrid and 9-X Air concepts were developed in parallel to address youthful buyers considering smaller car options. Both cars share a flex-fuel/electric hybrid powertrain with exceptional green performance. The two concepts have similar sheetmetal and interior design, but the 9-X Air has what Saab calls a 'canopy top,' allowing open-air driving. "The Saab brand is on the move,"...

Swedish Government Helps Saab and Volvo
The Swedish automakers seem to have good future thanks to their caring government. Last year it has been announced General Motors was ready to give up 4 of its manufacturing companies, one of which was Swedish Saab. Unfortunately, there were no firms interested in the purchase of the Saab shares. Ford wanted in its turn to give up Volvo and unlike Saab, the manufacturer received response from several companies in Europe and Asia.In the middle of December Swedish government in Stockholm approved a...

Can Saab Be Redeemed With A New Performance Car?
Watching any of the media this holiday season, the bad news after bad news makes anyone want to find a respite. When it comes to Saab, for us it means a preference for imagining what could or should be rather than what may not be. So our minds turn to better days and one word comes to mind most quickly… Viggen. Trollhattansaab.net's inside informant "Djup Strupe" Swedish for "Deep Throat" has sent a round of undisguised shots of the upcoming 9-3X to the web. The lifted 9-3 is aimed at SUV defectors and works in the same vein as the Audi allroad and Volvo XC70. Judging by the prototype caught by Djup Strupe, the car isn't far from production. The 30mm suspension lift and SUV-like body cladding are obvious in the photos, though the car maintains a distinct family look. Spy Shots: Saab 9-3X crossover-thingy caught
More spy shots of Saab's upcoming XC70-challenging 9-3X have just surfaced from Sweden. This offroadier 9-3 wagon SportCombi derivative has a raised suspension, "skid-plates" and extra cladding, plus jumbo exhaust tips to give it a more butch look. Looks like the Outback craze continues unabated. As we've told you before, the 9-3X will differ a bit from other 9-3s in its focus. Saab's Haldex drivetrain has shown itself to be a hoot to drive, which we noted when we sampled the Turbo X. Unlike the...
