Porsche 911 update includes 100% more awesome: Direct-injection, dual-clutch gearbox While we like to chide the Stuttgart crew for "updates" to its 911 range, this newest one actually has some serious substance underneath the tweaked sheet metal. In addition to the revised headlamp and taillight design, CAR is reporting that Porsche will upgrade both the 3.6- and 3.8-liter flat-six boxers with direct-injection. The technology, first employed by Porsche on the 2007 Cayenne, boosted horsepower and torque by around 10- to 15-percent in the SUV, and we hope that similar gains can be made... Blanc Slate: Porsche Design White Collection Click above to view the Porsche Design White Collection in hi-resWhite is not "the new black". Nor is anything else, for that matter. Black is the new black, and always will be. That's why it's black. What white is, however, is the white-hottest color for new cars these days. Porsche knows that as well as anyone else, and its merchandising division, Porsche Design, is celebrating the trend with a line of products in hot white instead of the usual black. The new Porsche Design White Collection is... Porsche files judicial review against London c-charge Porsche today officially applied for a judicial review challenging the London Mayor’s £25 $50 congestion charge in the High Court of Justice. The sports carmaker believes the increase of the congestion charge from £8 $16 a day, or £0.80 $1.6 for residents, to £25 is both unfair and disproportionate and predicts that the charge could even increase congestion and damage air quality in London. Commenting on the filing, Andy Goss, Porsche’s UK chief, said, “not only is this new tax on motorists... Article added: 2008-04-03 04:42:40 Article Views Rating: 183
Sneak peek: Porsche Cayenne (diesel) It looks like a diesel-powered Porsche is in the works. While Porsche managers have claimed that there will be no Porsche diesel, this is surely the right way for the automaker to go. A diesel-powered Cayenne with higher mileage would help Porsche reach its environmental goals. A guess is that the diesel engine in this Cayenne prototype was the 3.0 liter V6 TDI 240 horsepower from the Toured. [source] Article added: 2008-04-02 05:24:07 Article Views Rating: 185
Porsche Carrera 4 could switch to Haldex AWD system The beating heart of the Porsche 911 Carrera 4 and Turbo is the company's own proprietary wet-clutch all-wheel-drive system. Its traction dynamics are what Porsche owners and enthusiasts have come to know and trust for generations. Reports are now circulating, however, that Stuttgart is preparing to dump its own tried-and-tested in-house four-wheel-drive system for an outsourced Haldex transmission, reportedly equipped with the latest electronic limited slip differential. The rumors come at an... Article added: 2008-03-28 05:34:01 Article Views Rating: 181
Porsche 911: Ultimate car from the '80s? Growing up as a child in the '80s had its ups and its downs. Sure, every generation looks back at its past-self and wonders-out-loud, "What were you thinking," from time to time. Still, our generation sure did have plenty of cool cars, and many of those were featured on television. A rare day went by when we didn't lust for Magnum P.I.'s Ferrari 308; sitting in the movie theater being mesmerized by Doc's De Lorean not that it's that great of a car, but it's iconic nonetheless from Back to the Future; or... VIDEO: Porsche GT3 Cup Car vs. Cayman GTR... on 11th Ave. Click above to view videoLast week at the New York Auto Show we had trouble getting a cab in front of Javitz Center, but somehow the cats at Garage 419 were able to shut down 11th Ave. long enough to race a couple muscled-up Porsches. Pitted in a street racing battle are a Farnbacher Loles GT3 cup car and a Farnbacher Loles Cayman GTR. Both Porsches aren't lacking for power either, as the rear wheels pushing each Stuttgart stud are tested to the limits during the race and at the post-event dueling... Porsche may avoid CAFE penalty by buddying up with VW Porsche's forthcoming majority stake in Volkswagen has the potential to remove a CAFE-sized thorn from the automaker's side. After a failed bid in Congress to create an exemption for itself from the recently revised fuel economy standards, Porsche needed a way to increase its CAFE rating in the U.S. This might be achieved by combining Porsche and VW's emissions and fuel-economy numbers into one lump sum, thus preserving the automaker's performance heritage. While this certainly isn't anything new &ndash... Porsche may use VW stake to avoid emissions rules Porsche has a major challenge on its hands in the form of strict new fuel-economy and emissions regulations set to roll in across the U.S. and Europe in coming years. Carmakers are being forced to improve their average fleet-wide mileage and carbon emissions levels and for a niche brand like Porsche, which sells a limited range of high-performance models, meeting these new standards will be near impossible given the current deadlines. To get around the new regulations, Porsche may be able to merge its... Article added: 2008-03-26 08:08:16 Article Views Rating: 177
Sneak peek: Porsche Cayenne Hybrid The hybrid version of Porsche's Cayenne will likely be powered by a 3.6-liter V6. Its hybrid power plant is expected to offer at least a 15% fuel savings -- possibly up to 25 or 30 percent depending on applications -- compared to a non-hybrid V6. First shown in concept guise in LA and announced as a 2009 model, speculation has the Cayenne down for the 2010 model year. [source] Article added: 2008-03-22 19:54:32 Article Views Rating: 178 |
