Brew your own fuel at home for $1 per gallon If you’re tired of paying through the nose at the bowser, a new U.S. company may have the answer for you when it comes to reducing fuel costs. E-Fuel Corp unveiled its latest creation, dubbed the MicroFueler, that allows consumers to produce their own ethanol and pump it into their car from home. The Microfueler plugs into your home’s power and water supplies, and rather than using expensive corn as a processing material the relatively cheap substitute of sugar is used instead. Historically... Article added: 2008-05-12 10:09:41 Article Views Rating: 106
Britain considering rollout of ‘average-speed’ cameras In yet another blow for UK motorists the government is considering the rollout of ‘average-speed’ cameras on hundreds of miles of motorway under its plan to actively control speeding instead of just measuring it. The system uses a number of linked cameras mounted at intervals along a roadway. They detect your car and record the time you pass and then calculate the average speed taken to travel the distance between. This means you would no longer be able to slow down just in front of a camera until... Article added: 2008-04-17 07:39:19 Article Views Rating: 110
Bush vows to stop emissions growth by 2025 President George W. Bush has announced a goal of stopping the growth of greenhouse gas emissions in the U.S.by 2025 but made no mention of any specifics on reaching that promise. Stating the U.S. was in fact serious about environmental awareness, Bush was quick to reiterate that any new legislation to help the goal shouldn’t negatively affect American industry. Environmentalists were quick to slam the move as a shallow and undeveloped plan - and you can see their point. After dismissing the Kyoto... CAFE to cost Japan half what it will cost Detroit The cost of the United States’ new CAFE regulations has been widely speculated - and the figures are generally expected to be high - but the first real calculations of what impact the legislation will have on the industry are beginning to be developed. One analyst firm things the American Big Three will end up paying at least twice what Japan’s three largest auto makers will have to pay to comply with the standards. The cost of meeting the goals, which require makers to average 31.6mpg... Article added: 2008-05-26 14:49:02 Article Views Rating: 112
California eases quotas for zero-emissions vehicles The California Air Resources Board CARB has today agreed to reduce the number of zero-emissions vehicles carmakers are mandated to build each year by 70%, easing an earlier target that would have seen them sell up to 25,000 zero-emissions vehicles between 2012-2014. This figure has now been reduced to just 7,500, and only the top six carmakers have to meet the new regulation. While the reduction may seem like a backwards step, the board is in instead focusing on viable technologies by increasing quotas... Article added: 2008-04-01 05:38:18 Article Views Rating: 126
California easing zero-emissions mandate for carmakers California may be well known for its stance against pollution when it comes to legislating on emissions rules, but environmentalists have become incensed about the state’s increasingly lax attitude towards reducing pollution through regulation of new zero-emissions vehicles. In 1990, California adopted legislation that required 10% of carmakers’ fleets be zero-emissions vehicles by 2003. When it became clear this goal wasn’t going to be reached, the rule was changed to include ‘low-emissions’... Article added: 2008-03-28 05:33:55 Article Views Rating: 121

Carmakers forced to raise prices We could be in store for a sharp rise in vehicle prices as carmakers are forced to deal with unfavorable exchange rates, rising raw material prices and new fuel-economy and emissions regulations. These factors are increasing cost pressures on carmakers and it appears the burden will likely be passed on to consumers. GM has confirmed that it’s considering raising its prices to offset these cost pressures. Speaking with Automotive News, GM CFO Ray Young said the carmaker is looking at applying price...
