An ad published in the classified section of the Oakland Press read in part: "Employment offered to applicants responding to this advertisement will be to fill anticipated attrition replacement openings after negotiations or in place of employees...

How to keep your land barge and still drive green(ish)
These days it seems more common to overhear comments about a particular car's appalling fuel economy than idle chatter about the weather, which makes sense when a gallon of gas costs as much as a cheap umbrella. For instance, just the other day there was some guy going on about how his car was getting 3 mpg less than just a few months ago and had no idea why. That is until it was pointed out to him that his car's adjustable luggage rack was in its full, upright position, giving his car the aerodynamic...

Axle strike may threaten Malibu
The strike at auto parts maker American Axle could threaten production of General Motors Corp.'s hot-selling Chevrolet Malibu sedan, sources familiar with the situation said Monday. So far the only GM factories affected by the United Auto Workers union work stoppage have been ones that produce slower selling large trucks and full-size sedans. American Axle & Manufacturing Holdings Inc. doesn't directly supply parts...

Geely CE concept headed for Beijing
Chinese car designers are rarely lauded for their efforts, mostly because of the country’s reputation for ‘borrowing’ designs from other carmakers, but one company, Geely, is helping to turn around the bad rep with a number of interesting concepts it has planned for the upcoming Beijing Motor Show. Our previous story on the Geely GT concept revealed a concept with swooping lines, and a very original front grille that looks both svelte and alluring. Now Geely has released another concept...

California eases quotas for zero-emissions vehicles
The California Air Resources Board CARB has today agreed to reduce the number of zero-emissions vehicles carmakers are mandated to build each year by 70%, easing an earlier target that would have seen them sell up to 25,000 zero-emissions vehicles between 2012-2014. This figure has now been reduced to just 7,500, and only the top six carmakers have to meet the new regulation. While the reduction may seem like a backwards step, the board is in instead focusing on viable technologies by increasing quotas...
