HongQi reveals SUV concept at Beijing auto show Bucking the trend of China’s copycat design regime, the HongQi SUV concept revealed at this week’s Beijing auto show is a fairly unique creation, and though it isn’t groundbreaking, it’s not a barely-disguised imitation either. Tending firmly toward the production-ready end of the concept car spectrum, the SUV looks like it could go roll off an assembly line - with a few tweaks for practicality - within months, although the company doesn’t expect to come to market with the... HSV Commodore range gets 6.2L LS3 powerplant With the reveal last week of the LS3-powered Pontiac G8 GXP performance sedan at the New York Auto Show, it was only a matter of time until Holden announced plans for its own version of the car for sale in Australia. Hybrid sales up 38%, new record reached in U.S. Are more consumers basing their car buying decisions on their environmental awareness? Or are they merely seeking to save their pocketbooks from the rapidly rising price of fuel? Whatever the cause, more and more motorists are opting for hybrid drivetrains in their new vehicles, with sales of the fuel-saving technology at an all-time high in the U.S. Registrations of hybrid vehicles in the U.S. rose a staggering 38% on levels just one year ago with a record 350,289 hybrids finding a home in the past 12... Hybrid SUVs proving to be hard sell for U.S. carmakers The Detroit 3 have been berated from every direction for failing to anticipate the growth in sales of fuel-efficient vehicles, and now the trio are engaged in an uphill battle to reclaim market share largely lost to foreign rivals that offer a range of compact models and advanced hybrids. Catching up is proving to be arduous for the American automakers, and right now only Ford appears to be headed in the right direction. GM and Chrysler are both focusing on offering hybrid SUV’s as a compromise... Article added: 2008-06-02 06:47:57 Article Views Rating: 109
IDEA unveils Era concept for 30th anniversary Racing barchettas of the 1940s have spawned many an artist’s and child’s flight of fancy, but this time the car has become reality, after a fashion. Though IDEA’s Era is just a design model, and therefore essentially a shell with seats and a wheel, the company does have ideas for possible drivetrain layouts. If the car were built, it could be built in at least two different ways: as a front-wheel drive with a transverse four-cylinder or as a rear-wheel drive with a longitudinal V6... Italian man builds his own supercar A new supercar has emerged out of Northern Italy that was singlehandedly built by a car enthusiast by the name of Filandri Moreno. Dubbed the Uragano Italian for Hurricane, the car has taken up every spare hour of the 47-year-old’s time for the past four years. The entire car is fabricated from hand, and not just the panels and body but even the brakes, suspension and steering system were all built personally by Moreno. In fact the only thing not built by Moreno is the Audi sourced 4.2L V8 engine... Article added: 2008-04-17 07:39:18 Article Views Rating: 135
