Insurance cut riles Chrysler retirees
Retired Chrysler salaried workers are angry that a one-time company pension payment -- offered when the automaker eliminated life insurance -- buys them little in the way of death benefits. Retirees learned in March that Chrysler LLC planned to end their company-funded life insurance policies, part of a wider-cost cutting strategy by the Auburn Hills automaker. The benefit was equal to a worker's last year of pay for those who left before 2003, or $50,000 for those who retired after that. The change...

New Chrysler aims for profits, quality
Chrysler LLC's top executives have a vision for the automaker that in some ways defies much of what has defined being one of Detroit's Big Three. Their Chrysler will be smaller. It will forge more alliances with other automakers and parts suppliers to gain access to new technology and to make better use of its manufacturing capacity. It will build fewer, but better, cars and trucks that meet changing consumer demands. And it will be profitable. "Just tonnage is not the measurement anymore," Chrysler CEO...

New Chrysler exec has clients, quality in mind
Just hours after news of Chrysler's sale broke last summer, then-Nissan quality executive Doug Betts' phone was ringing. Cerberus Capital Management LP was on the line. Even before the private-equity firm purchased the Auburn Hills automaker, it recognized that Chrysler had a serious quality problem and pegged Betts, Nissan Americas' senior vice president for total customer satisfaction, to fix it. A reluctant Betts accepted the job only after learning it would not be an isolated quality executive, but...

Product development VP Frank Klegon insists that new Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep models are on their way, and he points to the next 300/Charger as proof. Nissan plans to build full-sized Titan trucks for North America and has already agreed with Chrysler about the beginning of the production at their plant in Saltillo, Mexico. The new 2009 Dodge Ram is made at the same plant and since the both trucks will be put together at that place, some people rise a question if both of them are going to have the same kind of engines. The manufacturers deny these gossips, saying that companies have separate plans about the engines. Chrysler worked really hard to have...
