GM may have to halt production by mid-April of the Chevrolet Malibu if UAW doesn’t end its strike against supplier American Axle & Manufacturing Holdings Inc. According to Mike Dunn, shop chairman of UAW Local 5960, American Axle supplies a knuckle used in the rear suspension of the Malibu and Pontiac G6.Dunn said that shortage of the knuckle may also shut down GM’s Fairfax assembly plant in Kansas by the middle of April.
