Volkswagen Touareg Hybrid |
Volkswagen says it is not enough to have gasoline and diesel-powered SUV, now they have to make a hybrid with the same name. Half-electric Touaregs is going to be a fuel efficient auto using up to 25 mpg in the city limit.
The hybrid will run on a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 which approximately outputs 328 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque. Together with this engine there will be an electric motor that produces 51 hp and 221 lb-ft of torque. The SUV also receives an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.
If Touaregs goes slower than 30 mph, only electric motor will be used. This is why the vehicle is equipped with the standard gasoline/electric hybrid package: start-stop system, regenerative braking and the transmission that turns off the engine when the driver stops pressing the gas pedal.
Even being a hybrid Touaregs remains a strong SUV which can tow 7,500 lb trailers.
