National Highway Traffic Safety Administration requested a recall on 2008-09 Nissan Rogue because of the possible loss of steering control. During tests it has been discovered that "a screw in the steering gear housing cover may loosen over time and could fall out." If the screw comes out, the steering system will be out of control in case of large input on the steering which would lead to an accident. Nissan says that there have not been any problems reported on this matter. However, the company is recalling 163,659 SUV’s in order to eliminate the problem. The owners can come to any Nissan dealership and have their vehicles checked out starting in the beginning of November. The technicians will check the steering system and specifically how well the steering gear cover screw is tightened. If it is loose, they will retighten the screw as it is supposed to be. Nissan also promises that there will be a cover plate installed to prevent the screw from possible coming out of the steering gear. If there are any questions, Nissan Rogue owners can contact the company at (800) 647-7261. [source] Add your comment:
