In a town consumed with a mayoral scandal and Tigers' baseball, American Axle workers are asking what it takes to get a little press coverage in the Motor City. The longest automotive strike in a decade apparently isn't moving the needle. Some strikers joked that only a visit from Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick will bring back the reporters and television cameras that flocked to the picket lines a month ago. Even if local media appear indifferent to the strike, there is one group who is concerned: other auto parts suppliers. After losing a month of sales to GM, some publicly traded suppliers could be posting some pretty ugly first-quarter numbers, those in the industry say.
