Last December, the Jaguar C-XF Concept received an early debut ahead of the Detroit Auto Show thanks to some memorable embargo breaks by established media outlets. The 2009 Jaguar XF, the production car inspired by the concept, was supposed to be unveiled tonight at midnight, but again things did not go as planned. We colluded with our friends over at Jalopnik to wait and see how things played out, as well as remained in communication with Jaguar to help identify embargo breakers, but the cat (hahaha) is out of the bag. You can read more about the meta circumstances surrounding the leakage over at Jalopnik. The interior, however, is where Jaguar has really made strides by embarassing most of its current models, the superlative XK included. The instrument panel is very clean and uncluttered, with air vents that remain flush with the dash when closed, and swivel open when activated. There's a large touchscreen to control most functions, with redundant HVAC controls immediately below. On top of the center tunnel sits Jaguar's new JaguarDrive Selector, a knob that the driver twists to select a gear that then recedes down into the tunnel until flush. It all makes for a minimalist experience with few buttons, dials and knobs. Blue accent mood lighting and interior lights that respond to the proximity of your finger rather than being pushed are also interesting touches. Rear set legroom also appears commodious, though we wonder how much the XF's coupe-like profile will affect rear set legroom. In the powertrain department, the XF will be offered with four engines, though only two will be available in the U.S. - a naturally-aspirated 4.2L AJ V8 and a supercharged 4.2L AJ V8. The latter produces 300 bhp/310 ft-lbs of torque, while the blown version makes 420 bhp/408 ft-lbs. They're the same engine used in the Jaguar XK and XKR, respectively, and we hear a 500-hp motor is also being developed. Europe will also get a 2.7L V6 twin-turbo diesel and a 3.0L V6 producing 240bhp and 221ft-lbs. of torque. All engines will be mated to Jaguar's excellent six-speed automatic with steering wheel-mounted paddles that produce shifts even quicker than in the XK. Lastly, 0-60 mph for an XF with the supercharged V8 will take an estimated 5.1 seconds, while a naturally aspirated car will be right behind at 6.2 seconds.
