Volkswagen has already announced the new models of GTI and Rabbit (European Golf) will be produced in June and go on sale in September 2009. The German auto maker wants to start sales in North America as early as possible, because they have huge plans on the little cars. In 2007 VW sold almost 42,000 Rabbits and GTI’s and in 2018 the manufacturer wants to take this number to 100,000 (the tenth part of all the Volkswagen models in U.S. according to the plan). 2009 GTI model is going to have 2.0-liter TFSI or 2.0-liter TDI. The car will be equipped with standard adaptive cruise control and adaptive chassis control. All-electric Rabbit is planned to keep 2.5-liter in-line five cylinder base engine. It is powered with lithium-ion battery developed by Münster University in Germany. The manufacturer is really proud of the vehicle since it is not only a fuel-efficient miniature auto, but it can carry cargo as well as people, recharges quickly and is very reliable.
