Ford Presents Figo in India

On Wednesday Ford has revealed new hatchback for Indian customers, Figo. It is a brand-new nameplate which comes from Italian “cool”. In fact, Figo is a close sibling to the European Fiesta.

The hatchback has all-aluminum 1.2-liter gasoline engine which is a derivative of 1.4 Sigma engine for Fiesta. It outputs between 70 and 75 horsepower. The car will be offered with diesel motor too: 1.4-liter Duratorq with 68 hp.

The front of the hatchback is ordinary for this kind of Ford vehicles: it has slim upper grille and large inverted lower grille. Figo has smaller headlights than Fiesta, but they still have a stretched back look. In the rear it is equipped with high vertical taillights, a rear quarter glass, and a “smooth, chunky” bumper.

The interior trim is going to be absolutely new: it is combining class-leading aesthetics and functionality. The representatives of the company say that Figo interior is going to become the standard for all new small hatchbacks.

There are a lot of cheap vehicles on the Indian market and the American manufacturer has to fit in with the low prices. The sales will not start till March 2010 and the prices are kept in secret till then, but it is expected to cost around $7,500-$8,000.
