![]() Sometimes you have to turn back the clock to go fast forward. First, we turn back four decades, to the birth of the Chevrolet Camaro and that very special souped-up version known as the COPO, that string of letters representing the abbreviation for how to work the order form to get what amounted to a factory-built hot rod. Next, we turn back just a few years, to when automotive engineer Jon Moss was head of what amounted to General Motors' toy shop, the specialty vehicles group that did things such as taking a big Caprice sedan and turning it into the awesome Impala SS. Though retired and splitting his time between Clinton Township and Arizona, Moss is still playing and has teamed with Chris Fesler and his Scottsdale, Ariz.-based Fesler Built, a high-end hot-rod designer, builder and parts manufacturer, to produce the Fesler-Moss Camaro, a car that will carry you forward very, very quickly. Though in business only a decade, Fesler Built has become prominent in building not only souped-up cars for individual customers, but show cars and high-performance project vehicles for a variety of automakers, including GM. For $15,000, Moss and Fesler offer an Enhancement Package for the 2010 Camaro that includes adjustable coil-over suspension, 22-inch wheels and tires, an alarm/remote start system, custom taillights and bezels, stainless steel hood strut and deep cycle battery. For $50,000, there's a Competition Package -- think modern-day COPO car -- that includes all of the above plus a carbon fiber hood, body kit and interior accents; JL Audio equipment; a brake package; supercharger package to enhance the V8 engine's output to some 530 horsepower, as well as heat and sound insulation and car cover. Being introduced next week at the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show in Las Vegas is the Limited Edition Package, which for $110,000 includes Comp Package equipment as well as a supercharged LS-9 engine; stainless steel exhaust; custom paint with color-matched engine block and leather seats; suede headliner; Corvette-style door handles, and special driving instruction at the Bondurant School of High Performance Driving. For the ultimate in Camaro enthusiasts, Fesler-Moss offers a matched set of Camaros -- a 1969 body with completely updated mechanical components and a 2010 version.
