Buick Is Popular in China |
Although General Motors does not have much success with Buick in Europe, the American luxury car is doing great in China. The Asian customers are so ready to buy Buick autos that the number of sold vehicles in China in August is four times as much as in the U.S.
GM was expecting good deals in China and delivered 152,365 cars to the Chinese customers; this is 113% from last year. However even in its boldest dreams the American automaker did not expect to sell a record breaking 1,111,401 units in the full year! This is 50% rise from 2008. The most popular models are Regal and LaCross both of which sold more than 7,000 last month. Total Buick sales in China are 38,905 autos, more than 100% up from previous year.
For a comparison it is interesting to see the U.S. numbers. From January to August 2009 Buick sold 62,934 cars, 36% off from previous year. August was really bad: 8,612 units which put it down 52% from the 2008 number.
Something has to be changed to turn American customers back to Buick, as for China, GM expects more than 40% rise of full-year sales by the end of 2009.
