Ban on Texting while Driving

The laws against using cell phones while driving are getting strict. Governors Highway Safety Association has signed a new policy which calls all the states to ban texting behind the wheel.

This new policy came right before the summit on distracted driving which will take place in the U.S. Department of Transportation on September, 30 and October, 1. It will be available live by Webcast and anybody is allowed to submit questions for the discussion at the summit. Mainly the talkers will be considering the ways to lower the number of crashes and deaths caused by distracted driving.

The Governors Highway Safety Association is very concerned about texting while driving. They say that it is a serious problem which has to be considered by everybody. “If every state passes a texting ban, it will send a message to the public that this dangerous practice is unacceptable,” explains the Association.

Some states have already agreed that it was necessary and enacted the ban. For example, Utah drivers would have to face up to 15 years in prison for texting while driving. California also enacted it as a law in the beginning of this year.
