BMW GINA, a Cloth Car

BMW designers decided to create a car made out of fabric, probably hoping in a case of an accident it will be easier to fix it just by sowing it back together.

Though, the company says they have special kind of hybrid fabric which is “made from a stabilizing mesh netting support and an outer layer that is both water-repelled and resistant to both high and low temperatures”. The fabric is stretched across the frame everywhere: air dam, hood, roof, trunk lid, rear deck, doors, wheel arches and side panels.

And this is not all! You should see how this beauty changes its shape according to the driver’s needs! For example, the headlights stay hidden when they are not needed, but as soon as the driver turns them on, the fabric cover moves away and the front end changes completely.

The new BMW is called GINA (Geometry and functions in ‘N’ Adaptations). It has basic features of an eight-cylinder roadster. It is not going to the production yet, the manufacturer says the car is “an object of research”.
