NEW YORK -- The auto Web site Edmunds.com said it expects a slight improvement in November vehicle sales compared with last month partly due to record-high sales incentives, but volumes will still be sharply lower from a year ago. Edmunds estimates new-vehicle sales in November of 850,000 units, up 1.9 percent from October. The figure is down 27.6 percent from sales in November 2007. The company predicts a seasonally adjusted annual sales rate of 11.5 million. The rate, known as SAAR, indicates what sales would be for the full year if they remained at the month's pace all year, with adjustments for seasonal fluctuations.

Ford F-150 wins top resale value award

Ford Motor Co.'s new 2009 F-150 is projected to have the best residual value of full-size light-duty pickups, according to the Automotive Leasing Guide. The F-150 won an award from ALG, which predicts the truck will have the best resale value at the end of a traditional three-year lease. ALG is a California based consultant and data-gathering firm.

Nissan working to create electric charging stations

Nissan Motor Co. said U.S. demand for all-electric vehicles will be tempered by the need for charging stations to power them. Consumers are interested, but infrastructure is going to be a challenge, said Mark Perry, planning chief for Nissans U.S. electric car program. The Tokyo-based carmaker is working with Better Place in Israel and Denmark to create public venues to recharge battery-powered autos. Nissan said last week it will lease all-electric vehicles in 2010 in Oregon and California. Nissan will collaborate with officials in California to set up charging stations for the automakers battery-powered cars, which will be designed to travel 100 miles on a charge.

Kia Motors stock falls on concerns over debt

Kia Motors Corp. , South Korea's second-biggest automaker, fell to the lowest point in more than five years in Seoul trading on concerns that repaying a $378 million debt may leave the company short of cash. The automaker fell 15 percent, the lowest since March 2003. Kia paid off bonds due Monday using cash reserves, Michael Choo a spokesman said. The repayment won't hurt cash flow, he said.

Parts suppliers hope for recovery with fed loans

Autoliv Inc. , ArvinMeritor Inc. and parts suppliers that lost more than half their market value this year may stem some of those declines should U.S. automakers win new federal loans. Autoliv, the world's largest maker of air bags, has fallen 68 percent this year, while Troy-based ArvinMeritor, a manufacturer of car and truck parts, has tumbled 74 percent.

Delphi postpones use of bankruptcy loan funds

Delphi Corp ., at the request of former parent General Motors Corp., postponed a hearing on further use of proceeds from its $4.35 billion bankruptcy loan. U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Robert Drain in New York adjourned until Dec. 1 the hearing on a so-called accommodation agreement that would let Delphi use funds from the loan through June, even though it matures next month. The company said it had permission from enough lenders to do so. While the original form of accommodation agreement was acceptable to GM, GM has asked, and Delphi has agreed, to reconsider certain of the subsequent amendments agreed to between Delphi and the required lenders, Delphi said in a statement.
