It looks like the upcoming Geneva Motor Show will be a busy one for Aston Martin - the automaker took the wraps off of its top-end droptop, the DBS Volante, earlier today. Expect to see the DBS Volante sharing the stand with the V12 Vantage and potentially first sedan in decades, the Rapide. “The DBS Volante delivers the utmost relaxed driving experience with the hood up or down. It combines engineering excellence with design perfection.” Aston Martin’s CEO, Dr. Ulrich Bez, said in a statement. The top drops in just 14 seconds at speeds up to 30 miles per hour. It stows beneath an automatic, hard tonneau. To ensure a top-speed beyond 190 mph, the same 6.0-liter 12-cylinder engine as in the coupe will power the convertible. With 510 horsepower and a 420 lb-ft. of torque, the DBS Volante will accelerate from a standstill to 62 mph in just a 4.3 seconds. The DBS Volante does come with a pair of small rear seats, but even the automaker admits that they’re best left for children or luggage. A six-speed manual is standard, while a six-speed “Touchtronic” automatic is optional. Like the DBS Volante uses carbon fiber to form the hood, trunk and front fenders. Standard equipment includes Bang & Olufsen’s BeoSound DBS which has been retuned for the open-top Volante. Pricing will be announced in Geneva.
