An interesting event took place last Sunday in Ascona, Switzerland. Local marine salvage company and several volunteers have rescued a 1925 Bugatti Brescia from the bottom of Lake Maggiore. The car spent over 70 years under water, but now it will be restored and sold on an auction. The Bugatti has a long interesting story. According to the local legend, a Swiss dealer ordered three Bugattis from the Italian automaker. The two new owners have paid the import fees and took their cars. The third one failed to pay and customs officials buried the car in the lake on the Italian-Swiss border. With the time the Bugatti slid deeper into the lake and by the time of the rescue it was 50 meters (160 feet) under the water. It is interesting that the car survived 70 years in such good condition. Even tires still had air in them. After the Bugatti sat in the sun for several minutes one of the tires blew up. The numbers on the car show that it is a T23 Brescia. It will take time to restore the car completely, but after all the necessary work is done, the 1925 Bugatti will be sold on an auction, the funds from which will go to Damiano Tamagni Foundation, juvenile delinquency prevention program.
