2009 Tokyo Auto Show: Honda Skydeck

Honda has designed the future version of a six-passenger hybrid minivan for the 2009 Tokyo Auto Show. It is a sibling of Insight hybrid with the flying name Skydeck. So far the manufacturer says the hybrid minivan is a pure auto show concept without any further plans for development.

As a standard minivan Skydeck has three rows of seats which are unusually slim, lightweight and sport looking for this type of vehicle. The front doors are attached in a supercar style: they hinge up and forward. The rear doors are typical for minivan: they slide backwards opening the view of good looking interior.

The concept has a 182-inch wheelbase which is shorter than American version of Honda Odyssey, but it is much longer than the 114-inch Accord.

Skydeck received Insight hybrid system battery which is mounted in the center console along the cabin floor. No more details have been unveiled yet about the minivan’s power or specific features.
